Being helped with personal care by somebody unfamiliar is genuinely uncomfortable, and for anybody living with dementia a stranger at the door can unsettle a whole morning, so we keep the team around each person small and give notice when a change cannot be avoided. For people with mental health needs, and for people recovering from alcohol or drug misuse, reliability and an absence of judgement are most of what we bring. We agree the plan with the person, in their words, and we revisit it whenever circumstances change. If somebody's needs outgrow what we can properly provide, we will say so rather than carry on regardless.
