About Caremaid Services

We are Caremaid Services, a home care agency supporting people in Addlestone and the surrounding parts of Surrey. We provide care in people's own homes, shaped around their routines rather than around a standard package of visits. The people we support are varied. Many are older adults who need reliable help with personal care, medication, meals and running a household. We also support people living with dementia, adults with a learning disability and autistic adults, people managing mental health conditions, people with a physical disability, people whose sight or hearing has changed, people living with an eating disorder, and younger adults who need support at home to live independently. Everything starts with a conversation in the person's own home about how they want their day to work, what they would rather keep managing themselves, and where support would genuinely help. We write the plan down, agree it, and change it when it stops fitting. Continuity of carers is something we protect as far as the rota allows, because being supported by someone who knows you well makes care easier to accept and makes changes easier to spot. Our carers are trained and supervised, and they are expected to raise anything that worries them at the time rather than later. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We keep asking clients and families where we could do better. What the inspectors found

A plain English summary of the Care Quality Commission inspection behind the current rating of Caremaid Services Limited. Report published 16 January 2019.

  • 15 October 2018

Safe

Inspectors found that people did not always receive a safe service, because of concerns about the timeliness and consistency of staff. The provider sent information after the inspection about how it had addressed this, but more time was needed to show that people had support at the agreed times and with consistent staff where possible. Inspectors found that risks, staff recruitment and medicines were managed safely, and they made one recommendation about late calls.

Effective

Inspectors found that people's needs were assessed in detail before they joined the service. Staff understood the need to gain consent, and the provider followed the Mental Capacity Act (2005) where people could not consent to a decision. Staff helped people to eat and drink where needed, and contacted the right professionals if someone's health got worse.

Caring

Inspectors reported that people said staff were kind and treated them with dignity and respect. Staff knew people as individuals and had a good rapport with relatives. Staff supported people to keep as much independence as possible.

Responsive

Inspectors found that people received care as set out in their care plans. The plans were based on people's preferences as well as their medical needs, and gave staff a good level of detail. People knew how to complain and said they would feel comfortable doing so.

Well-led

Inspectors found that the provider had effective systems to check the quality of care and kept accurate records. The registered manager regularly visited people at home, or the office phoned them, to check that care was of a good standard. Health and safety checks and medicines audits were up to date, and accidents and incidents were analysed and used to improve care.

What people told the inspectors

People told inspectors that staff were kind and treated them with dignity and respect. Feedback from people and commissioners also raised concerns about staff being on time and being consistent.
