About Us
Swanton Community is a home care agency in Camberley, supporting people in their own homes across this part of Surrey and north Hampshire. We work with adults who have a learning disability, with autistic people, with people who have a physical disability and with older people.
Our starting assumption is that the people we support are running their own lives and we are there to make that practical. For many that means a home of their own, choices about food, money and company, and the ordinary freedoms any adult expects. Behind it sits help with personal care, cooking, managing bills, getting to appointments, travel, and the officialdom that defeats most people.
We try to do as little as necessary. Support that takes over is easier to deliver and much worse for the person, so we measure ourselves partly by what people have stopped needing us for. If somebody wants to learn to use the bus alone, we go with them until they no longer need us to.
Communication is where we concentrate. Some of the people we support do not use speech, and almost every serious problem we are asked to put right began with nobody slowing down enough to listen. Where a physical disability is involved we learn each person's preferred way of being assisted to move.
The Care Quality Commission has not yet given us an overall rating. We are glad to explain how we work in detail before anyone commits.

More about the care at Swanton Community Services - North Hampshire
What each type of care involves, and the questions worth asking when you call or visit.
Older Person Care
Help with personal care, cooking, managing bills, getting to appointments, travel and the officialdom that defeats most people is how this agency lists its work. For an older person in Camberley that mixture is often what keeps a house running rather than any single task. Rates across the South East typically fall between £29 and £35 an hour, so the number of calls matters as much as their content. Swanton Community says its starting assumption is that people are running their own lives and it is there to make that practical. Ask how long a visit lasts and how many different carers would appear in a fortnight. Ask what the agency can cover late in the evening, since nights are arranged separately.
Learning Disability / Autism
If somebody wants to learn to use the bus alone, this agency says it goes with them until they no longer need it to. That is what person centred support ought to mean, alongside predictable routines, honest information and respect for sensory needs. Surrey would commission and review a package of this kind, so ask who attends those reviews and how often they are held.
Physical Disability
Doing as little as necessary is this agency's stated method, which for a physical disability means practical help that stops short of taking over. Personal care, transfers, travel and getting to appointments are the usual content, with communication treated as the thing that goes wrong first. Ask whether carers are trained on the equipment in the house, and who arranges a review when needs change.
