We are Carers Break, a community interest company based in Redruth, and we provide care and support in people's own homes across Cornwall. Our name says what we were set up to do. Caring for a relative full time is relentless in a way that is hard to explain to anybody who has not done it, and a few hours that are genuinely free rather than spent worrying can make the difference between carrying on and not. Support is agreed with the person and their family before it starts. In practice that might be personal care, a prompt and a check with medication, meals, help getting safely about, company, or a longer sitting visit so that a carer can leave the house properly. Being a community interest company means any surplus goes back into the work rather than out of it, and we think that shows in how long our staff stay.
