About STEPS

We are STEPS, a home care agency based in Bodmin, Cornwall. We support older people and younger adults in their own homes, including people with a physical disability and people with a visual or hearing impairment. Most people come to us at a point when something has changed. An illness, a fall, a gradual loss of confidence, or simply the accumulated weight of jobs that used to be easy. What they want is usually not to be looked after but to carry on, and our work is meant to make that possible rather than to take over. Where there is a physical disability involved, small details decide whether support feels like independence or dependence. How a transfer is managed, how equipment is set up, how much time is allowed so that nothing has to be rushed. Where somebody has a sensory impairment, we communicate in the way that works for them and leave the home exactly as we found it, because a chair moved half a metre is a hazard rather than an untidiness. We are registered with the Care Quality Commission and have not yet been given an overall rating.
