About Us
Here at Barclay Gardens, we provide residential care for older adults and younger adults in the heart of Telford, and we take genuine pride in making this a place where people feel at home rather than simply cared for.
We support a range of needs across our community, including dementia care, residential care, and care for those living with visual or hearing impairments. We also offer respite care for those who need a short break or a period of recovery, and we work hard to make sure that even a shorter stay feels settled and comfortable.
Our approach is straightforward: we get to know each person properly. What they enjoy, what unsettles them, what their routines look like, and what matters most to them day to day. For residents living with dementia, that kind of familiarity makes a real difference, and our team is experienced in supporting people through the different stages of the condition with patience and understanding.
We are proud to hold a Good rating from the Care Quality Commission, which reflects the honest, consistent work our team puts in every day. It is not something we treat as a destination though. We are always looking at how we can do better and listening to residents and their families when they tell us what is and is not working.
Families are a hugely important part of life here at Barclay Gardens. We encourage visits, welcome involvement, and try to keep communication open and honest. Moving into a care home is a significant step for everyone involved, and we want families to feel confident and reassured from the very beginning.
If you would like to find out more or come and have a look around, we would be very happy to hear from you.

More about the care at Barclay Gardens
What each type of care involves, and the questions worth asking when you call or visit.
Older Person Care
Coverage Care Services has held this registration since 24 November 2010, so Barclay Gardens is long established in Telford. For older residents the day covers help with washing and dressing, medication, meals and company. The home says its approach is straightforward, getting to know each person properly, what they enjoy, what unsettles them and what their routines look like. It also says its good rating is not treated as a destination and that it keeps looking at how to do better. Ask how many staff are awake overnight, how quickly a call bell is answered, and who makes sure a resident's own timings are kept.
Dementia
Knowing what somebody enjoys and what unsettles them is how this home describes the groundwork for dementia care. It says its team is experienced in supporting people through the different stages of the condition with patience, and that familiarity makes a real difference. Those are the right claims, and a visit will show whether the layout feels calm and secure and whether staff seem unhurried. The external evidence is an inspection from October 2019, so it is worth asking what has changed. Ask what dementia training staff receive, how distress and walking are handled, and how care is adjusted as the condition advances.
Visual / Hearing Impairment
Six categories appear on this home's registration, visual and hearing impairment among them. Practical support for sight or hearing loss means good lighting, clear signage, keeping things in the same place and staff who announce themselves. Ask what training staff have had, how written information is provided, and how a hearing aid or other equipment is checked.
Younger Adults
Barclay Gardens is registered for younger adults as well as older people, in a borough where the council pays about £680 to £820 a week towards a placement. In practice most residents in a residential home of this kind will be considerably older than 65. Ask who else of a similar age lives there, what the week offers them, and how much say residents have over it.
Respite Care
Even a shorter stay should feel settled and comfortable, according to this home, whether it is for a break or a period of recovery. Respite normally needs booking well ahead and often carries a minimum length, so ask what applies in Telford. Pack medication and a note of routines, and use the stay to judge whether the home would suit permanently.
Residential Care
An inspection in October 2019 produced a good rating, which is now several years behind. Residential care means help with everyday living rather than nursing, so personal care, medication, cooked meals and a day with some shape are included, but no registered nurse is on site. Anyone whose health needs regular clinical attention would be looking at a nursing home instead. West Midlands weekly fees usually run from £850 to £1150, while Telford and Wrekin council pays about £680 to £820. Ask what the fee covers, what is charged separately, and what has changed at the home since that inspection.

Can Mum or Dad stay here if their dementia gets worse?

Will they support end of life care, so there is no move at the hardest time?
Ask the home. End of life care is not listed on the register. Ask the manager whether residents can remain in the home with hospice or district nurse support.
Can she bring her cat or dog?
Ask the home. The home has not told us its pet policy yet. Ask directly; some homes allow small pets in residents' rooms or welcome visiting dogs.
Can a couple stay together?
Ask the home. We do not know whether the home has rooms for couples. Ask about shared or adjoining rooms if this matters.
Will the council help pay, or is it self funded only?
Ask the home. The home has not told us which funding it accepts. Most homes take both council funded and self funded residents; ask about council rates and any top up. Use our funding calculator to check what you might pay.
Do they take younger adults as well as older people?
Yes. Barclay Gardens supports younger adults as well as older people. Source: CQC register
Can I visit before deciding, and are there visiting hours?
Ask the home. Every home should welcome a visit. Call to arrange one, ideally at a mealtime or during an activity, and ask about visiting hours for family.
