About Us
The Lady Nuffield Home is a residential care home in Oxford. We are home to older people who need support with daily life, including many living with dementia, and we offer respite stays for people recovering from illness or giving a family carer a break. Moving into a care home usually follows a difficult period, so we take the settling in slowly. We ask about the routines somebody has kept for decades, the food they actually like, how they take their tea and whether they are an early riser, and we build around that rather than expecting people to adapt to us. Rooms hold people's own furniture and pictures, and we knock before we come in. The days here are not heavily timetabled. Some residents want company, conversation, music and a walk in the garden. Others want the newspaper, the radio and their own company. Both are entirely reasonable and neither is treated as the right answer. For residents living with dementia, familiarity does most of the work, so we keep our team settled and learn each person's history rather than just their care needs. When somebody is distressed we look for the reason behind it. We work with local GPs and community nurses so health changes are picked up early, and we keep families informed as a matter of course. The Care Quality Commission rated us good overall at our most recent inspection. You are welcome to visit at any reasonable time.
