About Us
Ivydene Residential Home is in Great Yarmouth. We support older people and adults living with mental ill health, including younger adults, and we offer respite stays alongside longer term places.
Supporting older people and people with mental health needs in the same home is something we have thought about properly. It works when the home is calm, when staff are consistent and when nobody is treated as a category. People here are known as individuals, with their own histories, habits and preferences, and the support is built from that rather than from a label.
Day to day we help with personal care, medication, meals, appointments, paperwork and keeping in touch with family. Residents decide how to spend their time. We will encourage someone who has withdrawn to come and join in, and we will just as readily leave a person in peace when that is what they need.
For younger adults in particular we look at the skills and confidence that make a more independent life possible later, because for some people this is a stage rather than a final destination.
We work closely with community mental health teams and local GPs, and we would rather raise a concern early than wait and see.
Being on the coast, a change of scene is easy to come by and trips out are part of the normal week.
Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please come and visit Ivydene.
