About Us
School Lane is a small residential care home in Sittingbourne, Kent, supporting adults who need a settled place to live and the right level of help to get on with their own lives. We are deliberately small, which means the people living here are known properly rather than approximately.
We support adults with a learning disability and autistic adults, people managing mental health conditions, people living with a physical disability, and younger adults. What that looks like differs enormously from person to person. One resident may want a full week of college, work and clubs, while another needs the days to stay quiet and predictable. We plan for both, and we are careful with change, giving plenty of notice when something has to be different and keeping somewhere quiet available for anyone who needs to step away.
Independence runs through everything. People here are supported to cook, shop, manage money as far as they are able and keep their rooms exactly as they want them. We help where help is genuinely wanted and stand back where it is not.
Respite stays are also available for people who need support for a short period.
Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is Good.
If you would like to visit, or to talk about whether this could suit someone, please get in touch and we will make time for a proper conversation.

Can Mum or Dad stay here if their dementia gets worse?
No. School Lane is not listed for dementia care on the CQC register. If dementia is likely, choose a home that is, so a second move is not needed later. Source: CQC register
Is there a nurse on site if health needs change?
No. School Lane is a residential care home without on-site nursing. District nurses and GPs visit, but someone who needs daily nursing may have to move to a nursing home. Source: CQC register

Will they support end of life care, so there is no move at the hardest time?
Ask the home. End of life care is not listed on the register. Ask the manager whether residents can remain in the home with hospice or district nurse support.
Can she bring her cat or dog?
Ask the home. The home has not told us its pet policy yet. Ask directly; some homes allow small pets in residents' rooms or welcome visiting dogs.
Can a couple stay together?
Ask the home. We do not know whether the home has rooms for couples. Ask about shared or adjoining rooms if this matters.
Will the council help pay, or is it self funded only?
Ask the home. The home has not told us which funding it accepts. Most homes take both council funded and self funded residents; ask about council rates and any top up. Use our funding calculator to check what you might pay.
Do they take younger adults as well as older people?
Yes. School Lane supports younger adults as well as older people. Source: CQC register
Can I visit before deciding, and are there visiting hours?
