About Us
201 London Road is a residential care home in Sittingbourne, Kent, supporting adults with a learning disability or autism. It is a home rather than a placement, and the household is built around the people who live in it.
Support is individual and practical. It can include help with personal care, medication, cooking, laundry, managing money and getting to appointments, and it takes in the things that make a week worth having: seeing people, going out, keeping up an interest, being useful, having plans of your own. We communicate in whatever way suits each person, and a routine that can be relied upon matters greatly to most of those we support. We give people the time to do things themselves even when stepping in would be quicker, and where somebody wants more independence we plan support that draws back steadily as their confidence grows.
Most of the people we support are younger adults. Respite stays are available too, giving family carers a real break.
Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is outstanding. We are pleased about that, and clear that it describes what was found at one point and has to be lived up to every day since. Please come and visit and meet the people who live here.

What the inspectors found
A plain English summary of the Care Quality Commission inspection behind the current rating of Insight SBS ltd 201 London Road. Report published 11 July 2018.
- 2 May 2018
- 3 places, 3 people were using the service at the time
Safe
Staff assessed risks to people and managed them in the least restrictive way. Staffing was based on each person's care and behavioural needs, and there were enough staff to meet people's needs. Pre-employment checks were carried out when new staff were recruited.
Effective
Staff training had been kept up to date, and staff had regular supervision meetings and yearly appraisals. Staff supported people to see health professionals such as the GP, and people's health and long-term conditions were well managed. People chose what they ate and when, and were given information to help them make healthy choices.
Caring
Inspectors found that staff were kind and treated people with respect. People's privacy was respected and staff recognised when people were upset or distressed and responded. Staff knew people well and had found ways to help them talk about issues they felt anxious discussing.
Responsive
Support was built around each person, and people were involved in decisions about it. A person centred planning coordinator worked to make sure assessments and support plans were personal, and plans were updated often. Inspectors said staff responded exceptionally well to people at risk of behaviours that may harm themselves or others, and that people had become more independent, for example learning to shop, cook and use public transport.
Well-led
Inspectors said the service was designed around values of choice, independence and inclusion. The registered manager told inspectors that new ways of working had been embedded since the last inspection, giving people more choice and control. There was a focus on staff learning and development, and people took part in recruiting new staff.
What people told the inspectors
Inspectors said people, relatives and health and social care professionals were consistently extremely positive about the service. Relatives said there were fewer incidents of behaviour that challenged and that people's health had improved. People said they were more independent and happier.
I am really happy now that I have moved in here, I feel more in control of my life A person living at the home
