About Us

Winchester House is a residential care home in Frinton on Sea providing care for older people, including those living with dementia.

We are a home rather than an institution, and the difference shows in how the day is run. People choose when to get up and go to bed, where to spend their time and how much company they want. Our staff help with washing and dressing, with moving about safely, with medication and with meals and drinks, and they do it without rushing anybody.

For those living with dementia we keep routines steady and surroundings familiar, adjust how we communicate rather than expecting the person to adjust to us, and treat distress as something to be understood rather than corrected. Families often know more than anybody about what works, so we ask them and we listen.

Meals are cooked here and there is a genuine choice. We know the people living here well enough to notice when somebody is not right, and we involve the GP early rather than waiting.

Respite and short stays can be arranged for families needing a break or people recovering after illness.

If you would like to look round, please telephone us and we will arrange a time that suits you.
