About Us
Read House is a residential care home at Frinton on Sea in Essex. We provide a home for older people who need support with daily living, for younger adults who need a supportive household, for people with physical disabilities and for people living with sight or hearing loss. Respite stays are available too.
What we aim for is an ordinary life with help attached rather than a routine that everybody has to fit. Residents decide when to get up, where to sit, whether they want company or quiet, and what they would like to eat. We help with personal care, dressing, medication and mobility, doing only as much as somebody actually needs, because taking over is easy and rarely useful.
For residents with physical disabilities, our attention goes to equipment that fits properly, transfers managed safely and without embarrassment, and keeping as much independence as somebody wants. For those living with sight or hearing loss, unhurried communication and a thoughtfully arranged environment make most of the difference, and we take time over both.
Getting out matters as well. Being near the sea is worth something, and we would rather support somebody to go where they want to go than fill an afternoon with activities chosen on their behalf.
Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Anyone considering Read House is welcome to visit on an ordinary day and ask us whatever they like.
