About St Denys Care Home

St Denys Care Home is in Barnstaple in Devon. We support adults, including younger adults, who have a learning disability or autism and people living with mental ill health, and we offer respite stays alongside permanent places. This is a home first. People here have their own rooms and their own belongings, and they have a real say in how the house runs, from the weekly shop to what happens at the weekend. Where a choice is genuinely difficult, our job is to support the person to make it rather than take it over. Our team supports people to do as much for themselves as they want to. That might be cooking and shopping together, working out a bus route, keeping a job or a college course going, managing money, or having the right kind of help with appointments and letters. Where somebody communicates without speech, we learn how they do communicate and we write it down so that everyone responds in the same way. When life becomes difficult we look for the reason rather than reaching for a label, and we agree in advance what actually helps. We work alongside GPs, community mental health teams, social workers and families and we keep everybody informed. Being in north Devon, we make a point of getting out rather than letting life shrink to these four walls. The Care Quality Commission rated us good at our most recent inspection. Please visit as often as you need before deciding anything.
