About Greenfields

Greenfields is a residential care home near Barnstaple supporting older people and adults with a learning disability or autism, including younger adults. We also offer respite stays. We plan around individuals rather than groups, which is what allows a home with this range of residents to work well. Everyone has their own room and their own belongings, and everyone has a real say in how the house is run. For residents with a learning disability or autism, communication is where we begin. We learn how each person tells us what they need, in words or otherwise, and we keep routines steady and predictable, with proper notice before anything changes. We support people to cook, shop, manage money and get out locally, because independence is built by doing rather than by being encouraged. For older residents the emphasis is on keeping the ordinary shape of a life going, with flexible mornings, proper meals and company when it is wanted rather than imposed. North Devon gives us space, air and somewhere worth walking, and we make use of all three with anyone who wants to. Respite guests are part of the household while they are here. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission was good. If you would like to look round, please get in touch and we will arrange a visit at a time that suits you.
