About Us
Morton Cottage is a residential care home in Carlisle, supporting older people including those living with dementia. We also offer respite stays for people who need care for a shorter period.
We aim to run the home the way a household runs. People get up when they are ready, keep their own belongings around them, eat food they actually like and spend the day in the way that suits them. Some of our residents want company from morning until night and some want a quiet room and their own thoughts. Neither is treated as a problem.
For people living with dementia, familiarity does most of the work. The same faces, the same room, meals at the times the body expects and staff who do not hurry or correct. We build around what somebody can still do rather than listing what they cannot.
Respite stays give a family carer a proper break, with support in place so that the break is a real one.
Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is requires improvement. We would rather say that plainly than let a family discover it later. We know what was identified, work is under way on it, and we are willing to go through the detail with anybody considering the home. Please come and visit, ask us hard questions and judge for yourself.
