About Wayside
Wayside is a residential care home in High Wycombe supporting younger adults and people living with dementia. We keep the house small and the atmosphere calm, and we plan around the individual rather than running the place to a single routine. Before somebody moves in we ask how they like their day to go, what they want help with and what they would much rather do for themselves, and we write it down so that staff follow the person rather than a rota. For people living with dementia we keep the day familiar and unhurried. We ask families to tell us about the life behind the person, the work they did, the family they talk about and what calms them when they are anxious, and we use that in conversation rather than storing it away. Help with washing, dressing, mobility and medication is given discreetly and at the time that suits. Meals are cooked on the premises and mealtimes stay sociable and relaxed. Relatives are welcome whenever they want to come, and we would far rather be rung with a small worry than have somebody sit on it until it grows. Short respite stays are available, often to give a carer at home a proper rest. Please get in touch if you would like to come and see the house for yourself.
