About Tupwood Gate
Tupwood Gate is a nursing home in Caterham, Surrey. We provide nursing care for older people and for younger adults whose needs call for qualified nursing support, with registered nurses on duty. Our clinical work covers long term conditions, wound and pressure area care, nutrition and hydration, continence and medication, working closely with GPs, community teams and hospital specialists. We also support residents living with dementia, where a calm and familiar day does more good than a busy one, residents whose mental health needs shape the care they receive, and residents with physical disabilities, where the right equipment and enough time matter most. Some of the people we care for are living with the longer term effects of alcohol or drug use, and we approach that as we approach everything else here, without judgement and to a plan agreed with the person. What we work hardest at is keeping the clinical side in proportion to the person. Someone living here still chooses when to get up, what to eat, where to sit and who to see, and their care is discussed with them rather than about them. Families are welcome and we ask relatives to stay closely involved. Respite stays are available for people needing nursing support for a short period and for families who need a planned break. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please come and visit us.

Safe
Inspectors found care was delivered safely, and personal risks were assessed and managed. Staff knew about safeguarding and responded appropriately to incidents or concerns. Medicines were managed safely, the home was clean and safe, there were enough staff, and checks had been done on all staff.
Effective
Inspectors found staff had the training they needed and supported people's healthcare needs. People were supported to have choice and control of their lives, and the building was adapted to make the home accessible.
Caring
Inspectors found people's feedback about staff was positive. Care was dignified and staff respected people's privacy. Staff found ways to encourage independence and to involve people in their care.
