About Fairburn

Fairburn is a nursing home near Bristol providing nursing care for adults with a learning disability and for autistic adults. We also offer respite stays. Combining nursing care with support for people who have a learning disability or who are autistic takes a particular kind of attention. Health needs in this group are too often missed or put down to something else, and we try hard not to let that happen here. Registered nurses are on site around the clock, so changes get picked up early and managed in the home rather than through repeated hospital visits. Just as important is how the place feels. People here have their own rooms and their own routines, and support is built around what each person wants to be able to do rather than around convenience. Where somebody needs a great deal of help, we still look for the parts they can take on themselves. We learn how each person communicates, including those who use little or no speech, and we adapt to them rather than the reverse. Noise, lighting, predictability and having somewhere quiet to retreat to all shape how good a day somebody has, so we treat the environment as part of the care. Respite stays give families a break in a setting that understands the clinical side properly. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please get in touch to visit.
