About Us
Kingfisher Lodge is a nursing home near Bristol, with qualified nurses on duty day and night alongside our care team. We care for older people and younger adults, including many people living with dementia and people with physical disabilities, and we offer respite stays.
People usually come to us when health needs have grown beyond what care at home or a residential home can meet. Nursing here means consistent attention to the things that keep a person comfortable and well: medicines, mobility, nutrition and hydration, skin, continence and pain. We work with GPs, district nurses and specialists early rather than waiting for a problem to become urgent, and we talk things through with the person and their family instead of managing them quietly.
Around that, ordinary life carries on. People rise when they wake, sit where they choose, keep their own furniture and photographs about them, and eat food that suits their taste as well as any clinical need. Where there is a physical disability we think hard about equipment, layout and timing, and help at the point of need rather than taking over.
With dementia we rely on knowing somebody well, so we gather a person's history with their family and keep adding to it. When somebody is nearing the end of life we aim to be honest, present and unhurried. Our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall.
