About Us
Alderwood Care Home is a nursing home in Colchester, Essex. We care for older people who need registered nursing alongside help with daily life, and we also support younger adults whose health needs call for nursing care. A large part of our work is with people living with dementia.
Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is outstanding. What sits behind that is not remarkable so much as steady: staff who stay long enough to know the people they care for, enough time to do the job properly, and a willingness to say plainly when something needs putting right.
Nursing cover at every hour allows us to look after people whose needs are genuinely complex, covering medication, skin and pressure care, continence, nutrition and the monitoring that catches changes early. Where someone is approaching the end of their life, it means they can stay here, comfortable and among people who know them.
Dementia asks for something other than clinical skill. It asks for a familiar rhythm to the day, surroundings that are easy to make sense of, and staff who go where the person is instead of correcting them. We learn about somebody's working life, family and habits, because that is what explains them to us later.
Respite and short stays are available. Please ring to arrange a visit.
