About Us

Beechwood Grove is a nursing home in Eastbourne providing care for adults who need qualified nursing support through the whole of the day and night. We look after people with health conditions that need regular clinical attention, people who have lost strength and confidence after illness, and people who want comfort, dignity and familiar company in their final weeks and months.

The people who live here include older adults, those with dementia and people with physical disabilities, among them younger adults. We write each care plan with the person and their family, and we keep it current. Needs in a nursing home rarely stay still, and a plan that is six months out of date is of no use to anybody.

We believe the texture of ordinary days is what makes a home good. Choices are offered at mealtimes and tastes are remembered. People get up and go to bed when it suits them. The day holds music, exercise, crafts, trips out and plenty of unstructured time, and nobody is required to take part in anything.

Being in Eastbourne means the seafront is within easy reach, and an outing there is often the highlight of someone's week. Families are welcome at any hour and can share meals with their relatives or take them out for the afternoon. If you are considering a move, call in and see us. We will answer your questions honestly, including the ones about money.

More about the care at Beechwood Grove

What each type of care involves, and the questions worth asking when you call or visit.

Older Person Care

Of the 56 homes around Eastbourne, 45 are smaller than Beechwood Grove, whose 61 places stand against a local average of 38. Older residents here would need help with washing and dressing, medication at the right times, meals they can enjoy and someone to talk to. The home's own description says choices are offered at mealtimes and tastes are remembered, and that people get up and go to bed when it suits them. A family should ask how those preferences are recorded and who makes sure a new resident's habits are known by every shift. The night matters as much as the day, so ask how many staff are awake and how an unsettled resident is helped at four in the morning.

Dementia

A high local standard is set around Eastbourne, where 41 of 56 homes are rated Good or Outstanding, while Beechwood Grove has no rating at all. That makes a visit the only real evidence available on its dementia care, and the things to watch are consistency of routine, calm in the layout and the way staff speak to someone who is lost. The home's own text insists a care plan is written with the person and their family and kept current, noting that a plan six months out of date is of no use to anybody. Currency matters in dementia more than in most conditions. Ask what dementia training staff have, how distress and attempts to leave are handled, and how often the plan is actually revisited.

Physical Disability

Half a mile separates Beechwood Grove from Victoria Medical Centre, the nearest GP practice, with a pharmacy the same distance away. Living with a physical disability in a care home comes down to accessible bathing, turning space, safe transfers and support that does not quietly take over. Ask which equipment the home provides, how many staff assist with a hoist, and whether a bedroom can be seen beforehand.

Younger Adults

A railway station sits 1.1 miles from Beechwood Grove, and the home's own text makes much of the Eastbourne seafront being within easy reach. For an adult under 65 those details matter, because a nursing home of 61 places will hold mostly far older residents. Ask who else of a similar age is there, what the week offers beyond the standard programme, and how freely someone can go out.

Nursing Care

Eastbourne District General Hospital is 1.3 miles from Beechwood Grove, unusually close for a nursing home and reassuring if a resident needs emergency treatment. Nursing care means qualified nurses present through the whole of the day and night, which is how the home describes its own cover. It is for people whose conditions need regular clinical attention, those who have lost strength and confidence after illness, and those who want comfort and familiar company in their final weeks. Fees in the South East typically fall between £1350 and £1750 a week, and a nursing home will set its own rate within or outside that. Where a nursing need is confirmed, NHS Funded Nursing Care pays about £235 a week, so ask how the figure appears on a statement.
