About Bendigo Nursing Home

Bendigo is a nursing home in Eastbourne. We support older people who need nursing care, including many living with dementia, people with physical disabilities and people living with sight or hearing loss. We also offer respite stays. Having registered nurses on the team means people whose health needs are complex do not have to move on as those needs change. That matters to residents and it matters to families who have already been through one difficult move. We try hard to keep the nursing from taking over the character of the place. A nursing home can slide into feeling like a ward, and once it does, everything else goes with it: people stop being asked what they want, days stop having any shape of their own, and visitors start behaving like visitors to a hospital. So we pay attention to the ordinary things. Meals people want. Getting outside when the weather allows it. Being helped without a long wait. Privacy. Being spoken to as somebody with a working life and a family rather than as a diagnosis. For residents living with dementia we protect routine, keep surroundings familiar, and ask relatives for the history that lets us understand what somebody means rather than only what they said. Our overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We treat it as the floor we build on rather than a line to quote at people.
