About Us
The Garden House in Bristol provides both residential and nursing care for older people and younger adults, including many residents living with dementia and people with a physical disability. Respite stays are available alongside permanent places. Being able to provide nursing on site matters a great deal, because it means a person's health needs can be met here rather than becoming the reason for another move at exactly the point when they are least able to manage one. The risk in a home with nursing is that the clinical side comes to dominate, and we watch for that. Getting up at your own hour, eating something you actually want, keeping your own things around you and having someone sit down beside you rather than stand over you are not extras. For residents living with dementia we keep the routine steady and the faces familiar, and we ask families for the life history that makes conversation possible. Where someone has a physical disability we take trouble over how help with washing, dressing and moving is given, since the manner of it matters as much as the outcome. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good.
