About Shelagh Care Services

Shelagh Care provides support at home to adults in Grays and across Thurrock. We visit older people who need help to carry on living in their own houses, adults living with dementia, people with a learning disability, autistic adults, people living with mental health conditions, people with physical disabilities and younger adults who need support to live independently. Supporting that range means there is no standard package. What an older person needs first thing in the morning has very little in common with what an autistic adult running their own household wants from us, and we assess properly, agree the support with the person, and change it when their circumstances change. The practical work covers personal care, support and prompting with medication, meals, household tasks, shopping and help to get out to appointments or into town. Alongside it sits the part that appears on no schedule, which is noticing. A carer who knows somebody well can tell when they are eating less, sleeping badly or seeming more confused, and raising it early is often what keeps a person out of hospital.
