About The Brett Lee Trust

The Brett Lee Trust provides support to adults in their own homes in Ipswich and the surrounding part of Suffolk, working with people who have learning disabilities and autism. Our work rests on a simple principle. It is the person's home and the person's life, and our role is to provide whatever support makes that workable while leaving as much as possible in their hands. In practice that means help with personal care and medicines where it is needed, and a good deal of time spent on the skills and routines that living independently asks for: cooking, shopping, managing money, keeping on top of letters and appointments, using transport, and coping with the things that go wrong in any household. It also means support to have an actual life. Seeing family and friends, getting to work, college, groups or activities, and making the everyday decisions other adults take for granted without thinking about them. Where somebody communicates in their own way, we learn how they do it rather than expecting them to adapt to us. Where the day needs to be predictable, we keep it predictable, and we prepare properly and in good time for the changes that cannot be avoided. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We ask the people we support, and the families who know them best, whether we are getting it right.
