- Home Care
We at Stepping Stones are proud to offer trusted home care across Rochdale, supporting people to live safely and independently in the place they know best: their own home. As a dedicated home care provider serving Rochdale and the wider borough, our mission is to bring compassionate, personalised support directly to your doorstep. Because we deliver care within our clients' own homes throughout the OL postcode area and surrounding communities, there is no single building to describe. Instead, our environment is shaped by yours. We adapt to the layout, routines, and rhythms of each household, ensuring familiar surroundings remain at the heart of every visit. For many families, this continuity of environment is invaluable, particularly for loved ones living with memory difficulties or long term conditions where familiarity provides genuine comfort. The scope of care we provide is deliberately broad, because the people of Rochdale who reach out to us are wonderfully diverse in age, circumstance, and need. We support older people who wish to remain independent at home, offering everything from companionship and gentle daily assistance to more comprehensive personal care. For those living with dementia, our approach is patient, respectful, and rooted in maintaining dignity through predictable, reassuring routines. We also work with younger adults and people living with learning disabilities or autism, tailoring our support to promote confidence, choice, and meaningful daily living. Our mental health support extends compassion without judgement, whilst our experience with physical disabilities and sensory impairments, including visual and hearing loss, means practical assistance is always paired with genuine understanding. Beyond these core areas, we extend specialist support to individuals navigating eating disorders and those recovering from alcohol or drug misuse. These are sensitive journeys, and our care workers approach them with discretion, warmth, and steady encouragement, working alongside families and other professionals to build stability and hope. In practice, this breadth means families rarely need to look elsewhere as needs evolve. A relative whose care began with light domestic support can continue with the same trusted team as their situation changes, providing consistency that matters enormously to both the person receiving care and those who love them. Our commitment to quality is reflected in our CQC rating of Good overall, with particular recognition in the Responsive domain, where we were rated Outstanding. This Outstanding mark for responsiveness is something we hold close, because it reflects what families tell us matters most: that we listen, we adapt, and we respond to changing needs with genuine care and timeliness. Alongside this, our Good ratings across Safe, Effective, Caring, and Well led domains demonstrate the consistent standards we uphold in every visit, every conversation, and every care plan. Choosing home care is a significant decision, and we understand the worry that often accompanies it. Whether you are exploring options for a parent, a partner, an adult child, or yourself, we invite you to reach out for a warm, unhurried conversation. We are here to listen, to answer your questions honestly, and to help you consider whether our support might be the right fit for your family. At Stepping Stones, care begins with understanding, and we would be honoured to begin that conversation with you.

- Home Care
Sunshine Care in Rochdale supports older people, people living with dementia and adults with a physical disability in their own homes across the borough. We have kept our focus fairly narrow on purpose. Doing a smaller number of things properly beats spreading ourselves thin, and most of the people who contact us want the same thing, which is enough support to carry on living where they are. Depending on what is needed, that could be one call each morning to help somebody wash, dress and get the day started, several visits a day covering personal care, medication, meals and company, or a longer sit so a family carer can have a few hours to themselves. We begin by asking what help is actually wanted rather than working from a form. People are usually very clear about what they can still manage and would rather keep doing for themselves, and respecting that is as much the job as the tasks we take on. With dementia, continuity is not a nice extra. A carer the person recognises, arriving at roughly the time they expect, who already knows how they take their tea and what helps when they are anxious, achieves far more in half an hour than a stranger could in twice that. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please ring us to talk things through.

- Home Care
We support younger adults in their own homes in Rochdale, and our work centres on mental health. Supporting somebody's mental health at home is less about tasks than about helping a week hold its shape. Getting up, eating properly, taking medication, keeping an appointment, having something worth turning up for. When those slip, everything else follows, and a reliable caller who knows the person is often what makes them sustainable again. Manner matters more here than in most care work. A good number of the people we support have been managed, assessed and moved along, and have had experiences of being judged rather than helped. We recruit and supervise with that squarely in mind rather than trusting it to sort itself out. Progress is uneven and does not follow a timetable, so we try to be steady rather than to push, and we do not treat a bad fortnight as a reason to withdraw. We have not yet been given an overall rating by the Care Quality Commission, and we would rather state that plainly than write around the gap. We are happy to be asked how we recruit, train and supervise our staff, and to be judged on what the people we support say about us.

- Home Care
We are Tre Sorelle Care, a home care provider in Rochdale supporting people in their own homes across the borough. We work with older people and people living with dementia, people with a physical disability, and younger adults who need support to live at home. Most people would far rather stay where they are, among their own things and their own neighbours, and our job is to make that workable for as long as it sensibly can be. Depending on what somebody needs, that might be a short call each morning or a substantial package built around several visits a day. We help with personal care, medication, meals, household tasks and getting out and about, and wherever a person can still manage something we support them to keep doing it. We take the practical side seriously. Rounds are planned so that visits are not cut short to make up time, and we keep the same carers with the same households wherever the rota allows. Familiarity is not a luxury in this work. It is what makes personal care bearable and what lets a carer notice that somebody is not themselves today. Everything begins with a visit and a proper conversation, with family involved where that is wanted. We work alongside district nurses, GPs and social workers. Please get in touch to talk about support at home.

Arranging and funding home care in Rochdale
The care needs assessment
An assessment is the practical first step, ahead of calls to individual agencies. Anyone who appears to need care and support can request one free of charge whatever their income or savings, and it produces the written record of eligible needs that providers will work from. A practitioner from Rochdale Metropolitan Borough Council will discuss washing, dressing, eating, taking medication, moving safely around the home and keeping in touch with other people, then set out which needs are eligible for support. Anyone giving regular unpaid help has a separate right to a carer's assessment, so ask for both in the same conversation.
Costs and contributions
Where needs are found eligible, a financial assessment of income and capital follows. Care may then be funded in full, funded in part with a contribution from the person receiving it, or paid for privately. Families who qualify can request a direct payment and commission an agency of their own choosing rather than accept one arranged for them. Privately funded home care is normally charged by the hour, with higher rates at weekends, on bank holidays and for shorter calls, while live in support is quoted weekly. Ask every agency for its rates, minimum visit length and notice period in writing before anything is signed.
Choosing between home care agencies in Rochdale
What the ratings show
All 54 agencies listed here are registered with the Care Quality Commission. Twenty four have been rated Good, five hold Requires Improvement, and twenty four are not yet rated because they registered too recently to be inspected. An absent rating means no inspection has taken place rather than that anything has gone wrong, so ask how long the agency has traded, who registered it and what training new carers complete before their first visit. Where a report exists, read what inspectors found about the punctuality of calls, how medicines were administered and recorded, staff training and how the manager responded to concerns.
Matching the agency to the person
Providers differ more than their marketing suggests. Some concentrate on short personal care calls, others offer longer companionship visits, dementia support, overnight cover or help settling somebody home after a hospital stay, and agencies in this listing such as PRM Care, Cottage HomeCare and Prestige Nursing North Manchester work in different ways. Confirm that carers genuinely travel to the address, ask who writes the care plan and check how quickly it can be revised when needs increase.
Questions worth asking everybody
Ask how many different carers will attend over a fortnight and whether a small consistent team is kept for each person. Find out how you would be told when a call is running late, who answers the telephone at weekends and how complaints are recorded and resolved. Ask how often care plans are formally reviewed and what happens when a regular carer leaves, since continuity is what families notice most once care begins.
Frequently asked questions about home care in Rochdale
How many home care agencies are there in Rochdale?
Rochdale has 54 CQC registered home care agencies: 25 Good, 5 Requires improvement, 24 not yet rated. Counts come from the CQC register and are kept up to date as ratings change.
How much does home care cost in Rochdale?
Hourly care visits, North West: £25.00 to £28.90 an hour. Middle half of prices from 9 agencies. Median £26.58. Shown for North West because too few Rochdale agencies publish a rate. Published prices come from agencies that publish rates, so treat them as a guide. Ask the agency for its own price.
Which home care agencies in Rochdale were inspected most recently?
Home Instead Senior Care (27 July 2026), Homecare For You Rochdale (16 July 2026) and Apollo Home Healthcare Limited-North West (7 July 2026) have the most recent CQC reports.
Can Rochdale Metropolitan Borough Council help pay for home care?
It may, once two assessments have been completed. A care needs assessment first establishes whether the person has eligible needs, and a financial assessment then considers income and capital. Care may be funded in full, funded in part with a personal contribution, or paid for privately. Where funding is agreed, a direct payment lets the family choose and commission their own agency.
How do I arrange a care needs assessment in Rochdale?
Contact the adult social care team at Rochdale Metropolitan Borough Council and describe what has become difficult at home. The assessment is free and available to anyone who appears to need care and support, regardless of savings. A practitioner will discuss daily tasks, safety and wellbeing during a home visit or by telephone, then record which needs are eligible. If you provide regular unpaid care, ask for a carer's assessment at the same time.
How soon should I start arranging home care in Rochdale?
Start when everyday tasks begin slipping rather than waiting for a crisis to force the decision. Agencies with strong reputations often have limited capacity in particular areas, and arranging an assessment, comparing providers and agreeing a care plan takes a few weeks in practice. A hospital discharge compresses that timetable considerably. Having a shortlist ready makes an urgent situation much less stressful.
Which home care agencies cover Rochdale?
Care Assura lists 54 home care agencies serving Rochdale, all registered with the Care Quality Commission. They include providers such as PRM Care, Cottage HomeCare, Prestige Nursing North Manchester and Lotus Home Care Greater Manchester. Each profile shows the current CQC rating where one has been published, together with the details needed to make contact. Narrowing the list to your own neighbourhood keeps the comparison manageable.
What should I ask a home care agency in Rochdale before agreeing to visits?
Ask how many different carers will attend and whether the agency keeps a consistent team for each person. Check how late calls are communicated, who is contactable outside office hours and how complaints are investigated. Ask to see a sample care plan and find out how quickly it can be revised after a hospital discharge. Request written confirmation of hourly rates, weekend and bank holiday charges, minimum visit lengths and the notice period.
What is the difference between a care home and a nursing home?
A residential care home provides accommodation together with personal care, so staff help with washing, dressing, meals and medication in a shared setting. A nursing home offers the same support and additionally has registered nurses on duty, allowing it to meet clinical needs such as complex wound care or an unstable long term condition. Home care sits apart from both, since the support travels to the person in their own house. Many families in Rochdale rely on home care for a long time before either kind of home is considered.
