About Emerald Agency

Emerald Agency supports adults in their own homes in Ryde and across the Isle of Wight. Our work is with adults who have learning disabilities, with autistic adults, and with people who have sight or hearing loss. We are clear about what our support is for. It should widen somebody's life rather than manage it. That means asking how a person wants things done and then doing it that way, even when another way would be quicker for us, and it means spending time alongside somebody while they do something themselves rather than doing it on their behalf. Support covers the ordinary business of a life: cooking, shopping, managing money, keeping appointments, travelling about, getting to work or college, keeping in touch with people, and personal care and medication where that is needed. How much we do and how much we stand back is agreed with the person and reviewed as they move forward. Communication is the foundation. Some of the people we support do not use speech, and learning how an individual shows what they want, and what they do not want, comes before everything else. Where there is sensory loss we think carefully about how information reaches somebody and how we make ourselves understood. We record what we learn so the whole team responds alike. Our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall, and we are glad to discuss a particular situation.
