Broad Oak Manor Domiciliary Care supports older people in their own homes in Hertford and the surrounding area. Our work is straightforward and we think it benefits from staying that way. The people we visit want to carry on living where they are, among their own things and their own routines, and they need a hand with the parts of the day that have become harder. That might be help with washing and dressing first thing, a prompt or assistance with medication, preparing a meal, keeping on top of the laundry and the house, or help with shopping and getting out to appointments. Very often the part that matters most is having somebody familiar come through the door with time for a proper conversation. Before anything begins we come and talk it through with the person and anyone they want involved, agree what is needed and write it down in plain language, then review it honestly as things change. We put our effort into the things people actually judge us on. The same carers going to the same households, arriving when we said we would, and a telephone call if we are running late. Familiar carers notice when somebody is eating less, sleeping badly or less steady on their feet, and raise it early. At our most recent inspection the Care Quality Commission rated us outstanding overall. We were glad of it and know it has to be earned again in every visit.
