About Us
We are the Mencap domiciliary care team in March, supporting adults with a learning disability or autism in their own homes across this part of Cambridgeshire. We also support some older people, and a good number of the people we work with are younger adults.
Our starting point is that the home belongs to the person and so does the life being lived in it. We are there to help with the things someone wants help with, which might be cooking, shopping, budgeting, laundry, appointments and post, or might be support to get out to a job, a college course, a group or simply into town.
Communication comes first in everything we do. Not everybody tells us what they need in words, and learning how each person does tell us is our responsibility rather than theirs. Predictability matters too. We keep staffing as consistent as we can and we give proper notice before anything changes, because sudden change is often the hardest part of anyone's week.
We work with a lot of people moving from children's services into adult life, and we plan that transition early and at the person's pace rather than to a timetable.
