We provide supported living and home care to adults across Bolton, in their own homes. The people we support include older people, those living with dementia, adults with a learning disability and autistic adults, people managing mental health conditions, people with physical disabilities, people with sight or hearing loss and people affected by alcohol or drug misuse. Younger adults form a large part of our work. Supported living is different from a care home in an important way. The tenancy and the life belong to the person. We are there to make that life workable, not to run it. In practice that means help with cooking, shopping and managing a household, somebody alongside you where a place or an appointment would otherwise be too much, and support to keep work or study going. In the more difficult parts of our work we are practical rather than moralising. Somebody trying to change their circumstances needs stability, straightforward help and people who do not disappear when a week goes badly. We aim for consistency of staff above almost everything else, because trust in this work is built slowly and undone quickly. If you would like to talk about support in Bolton, please get in touch and we will arrange to meet and discuss what would help.

- Home Care
We at Supported Steps are proud to provide compassionate home care across Bolton, supporting people to live safely and independently within the familiar comfort of their own homes. As a dedicated home care agency serving the Bolton community and wider BL postcode area, we understand that choosing support for a loved one is one of the most important decisions a family can make. Operating throughout Bolton and the surrounding North West communities, we bring our care directly to those who need it. Rather than asking individuals to adjust to a new environment, we step into the homes and routines they already know and love. This approach allows residents to remain surrounded by their treasured possessions, cherished memories, and local neighbourhoods, whilst receiving the professional support they require to thrive day to day. Our care is tailored to meet a broad range of needs. We specialise in supporting older people who wish to maintain their independence at home, offering the kind of thoughtful, personalised assistance that makes daily life easier and more enjoyable. We also provide dedicated care for younger adults, recognising that support needs are not defined by age and that every individual deserves a plan built around their own goals and lifestyle. A key strength of our team lies in our experience supporting people living with mental health needs. We understand that mental wellbeing is deeply personal, and we approach this area of care with sensitivity, patience, and genuine respect. Our aim is always to build trusting relationships that empower the people we support, helping them to feel heard, valued, and encouraged to live fulfilling lives on their own terms. In practice, this means our care is never one size fits all. From help with personal care, medication support, and mobility, through to companionship, community access, and encouragement with daily routines, we shape our involvement around what matters most to each person and their family. We work closely with relatives, keeping communication open and honest, so that loved ones can feel confident and reassured about the support being provided. Families researching care providers naturally look for reassurance that standards are being met, and we are pleased to share that the Care Quality Commission has rated Supported Steps as Good overall following its most recent inspection in December 2021. This positive rating extends across every one of the five key areas assessed by the CQC, with Good ratings achieved in Safe, Effective, Caring, Responsive, and Well-led. For families, this consistency offers meaningful peace of mind. It reflects a home care agency that is not only kind and attentive in its day to day work, but also safely run, effectively managed, and genuinely responsive to the individuals it supports. Choosing home care is about far more than practical assistance. It is about trust, dignity, and the confidence of knowing that the person visiting your loved one truly cares about their wellbeing. We at Supported Steps take this responsibility to heart every single day, and we welcome the opportunity to speak with families who are exploring their options. If you are considering home care in Bolton for yourself or someone dear to you, we invite you to reach out to learn more about how we can help. Whatever the next step looks like for your family, we are here to listen, to guide, and to walk alongside you with warmth and understanding.

At SureCare Bolton, we provide home care across Bolton and the surrounding area, supporting people to live comfortably and independently in their own homes. We believe that receiving care at home, in familiar surroundings, makes a real difference to how people feel day to day, and that is what drives everything we do. We support a wide range of individuals, including older adults, younger adults, and people living with dementia, learning disabilities, autism, mental health conditions, physical disabilities, and visual or hearing impairments. No two people are the same, and we take time to understand each person's needs, preferences and routines before care begins. That way, the support we provide genuinely fits around someone's life rather than the other way around. Our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission rated us as Good, which reflects the consistency and thoughtfulness our team brings to their work every day. We are proud of that rating, though we are always looking at how we can do better for the people in our care. We know that inviting someone into your home, or into the home of a loved one, is not a decision made lightly. We take that responsibility seriously. Our carers are carefully selected, thoroughly trained, and supported on an ongoing basis so that the standard of care we provide remains dependable and genuinely person centred. Whether someone needs a short visit a few times a week or more regular support throughout the day, we are here to help figure out what works best. We are always happy to have an honest conversation about what we offer and whether we are the right fit. If you would like to find out more about how we can help, please do get in touch. We would love to hear from you.

We provide care at home in Bolton, supporting older adults, people living with dementia, adults with learning disabilities and autistic adults, people with physical disabilities and younger adults. Being a local team is the practical heart of this. We know the streets and how long a journey really takes, which means we can build a round that works on an ordinary Tuesday rather than one that only holds together in theory. Arriving when we said we would is not a small courtesy when somebody is waiting to be helped out of bed. For autistic adults and people with learning disabilities we are careful to be exactly where we said, at the time we said, doing what was agreed, because improvising is rarely helpful. For people living with dementia, consistency does most of the work, so we send the same faces wherever the rota allows and ask families for the history that makes a person's remarks comprehensible. Our overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We ask the people we visit what they think of us and act on the critical answers rather than the polite ones.

We at Thumbs Up Care Group are proud to provide compassionate home care across Bolton and the surrounding areas of the North West. As a dedicated home care agency, we bring professional, person centred support directly into the place people love most: their own home. Operating within the BL postcode area, we serve individuals and families throughout Bolton and its neighbouring communities. Because our care is delivered in your own residence, there is no unfamiliar environment to adjust to. Instead, we come to you, working around your routines, your preferences, and the surroundings that already bring you comfort. Whether you live in a quiet suburban street, a town centre flat, or a family home filled with memories, our team is committed to preserving the independence and dignity that comes with remaining in familiar surroundings. Our support is designed to meet a broad spectrum of needs. We provide Older Person Care for those who require a little extra help with daily living, whether that involves personal care, medication reminders, meal preparation, or simply the reassurance of a friendly, familiar face. For adults living with a Learning Disability or Autism, we offer tailored support that respects individuality, promotes independence, and helps people engage confidently with their community. Our Mental Health support is delivered with sensitivity and understanding, focusing on emotional wellbeing, routine, and stability. We also assist people with a Physical Disability, providing practical help with mobility, personal care, and everyday tasks that enable them to live life on their own terms. Younger Adults are equally welcomed into our care, with support shaped around their goals, aspirations, and lifestyle rather than a one size fits all approach. What this means in practice is that families across Bolton can turn to a single, trusted provider whose team is experienced across a wide range of needs. For loved ones, it means care that adapts as circumstances change, without the upheaval of moving between providers. For those we support, it means being seen as a whole person, with hobbies, history, preferences, and hopes, rather than being defined by a diagnosis or age. We are pleased to hold an overall rating of Good from the Care Quality Commission, following our most recent inspection in November 2022. We were rated Good across every one of the five key areas assessed by the regulator: Safe, Effective, Caring, Responsive, and Well led. This consistent standard reflects the culture we work hard to maintain: a team that is well supported, well trained, and genuinely invested in the people it cares for. It offers families the reassurance that when they welcome our team into a loved one's home, they are welcoming a provider whose practice has been independently verified against the standards that matter most. Choosing home care is a significant decision, and we understand the mix of emotions that comes with it. Whether you are exploring support for a parent, a partner, an adult child, or yourself, we invite you to reach out to us. We will take the time to listen, to understand what matters to you, and to explain clearly how we can help. At Thumbs Up Care Group, our door is always open, and our promise is simple: to deliver care in Bolton that we would be proud for our own families to receive.

VCare Professionals supports people across Bolton in their own homes. We arrange visits around the routines somebody already has rather than around what suits a rota, and we aim to keep the same carers going to the same people. We support older people who need help with the everyday tasks that have become harder, personal care, medication, meals, shopping and getting out safely. We support people living with dementia, where familiarity and patience are worth more than any amount of written instruction handed to a stranger. We also work with people living with a physical disability, where good support is mostly about restoring practical independence, people with sight or hearing loss, where sensible adjustments change how a day feels, and younger adults, whose priorities are often quite different. We take a plain view of quality. Does the carer arrive when we said. Do they stay the full visit. Do they know the person well enough to notice a change. We have not yet received an overall rating from the Care Quality Commission, and we would rather state that clearly. Until then, test us on those points.

We provide care in people's own homes across Bolton and the surrounding area. Our support is for older people, people with physical disabilities, people living with sight or hearing loss and younger adults whose care needs sit alongside work, study and family life. Visits range from a short call in the morning to several hours of support each day. Before anything begins we come out and talk. We want to understand how a household already runs, what somebody actually wants help with and, just as usefully, what they would rather carry on doing themselves. Independence given up unnecessarily is very hard to recover, and a good plan protects it rather than quietly eroding it. Once care is running, it is the unremarkable parts that matter. Arriving when we said we would. Sending carers who know the household. Handing over properly so nobody has to explain themselves twice. Telling a family early when something has changed rather than hoping it settles. Where there is sight or hearing loss, we take care with the small things. Saying who we are as we come in. Describing what is on the plate. Putting things back exactly where they were left. If you would like to talk about support at home, please get in touch and we will arrange to visit.

Westwood Homecare supports people in their own homes in Bolton and the surrounding area. We work with older people and with younger adults, and our experience covers dementia, learning disabilities and autism, mental health needs, physical disabilities, and sight and hearing loss. We assess at home, with whoever the person wants present, and the conversation is as much about what somebody wants to keep doing as about what they need help with. The plan that comes out of it is agreed rather than issued, and it changes when circumstances change instead of waiting for a review date. Support may be a short morning call, visits at several points through the day, or longer stretches for somebody who should not be alone for long. Across that range of needs, training has to be real. A carer supporting an autistic person, a carer supporting somebody in the later stages of dementia and a carer supporting somebody with poor sight each need different knowledge, and ours have it before they go out to anybody. We hold onto continuity as hard as we can, because being helped to wash and dress is a close thing to allow and much easier when the person at the door is familiar. Where we have to send someone new we say so in advance. Our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall.

Xcell Healthcare provides care and support at home for people across Bolton. We are a home care agency, so our care workers come to you and the support is arranged around your routine rather than ours. We support older people who need a hand to carry on living independently, people living with mental health conditions, and younger adults who need support to get on with their own lives. Those are different kinds of work and we would rather plan each one individually after a proper conversation than hand anybody a standard package. Before anything is agreed we want to understand how your day runs now, what has become difficult, and what you would rather keep doing yourself. From there, support might mean help with washing and dressing, prompting and support with medication, meals and shopping, keeping on top of the house, or company and a reliable presence for somebody who finds the days long. We keep our teams small and consistent, because familiarity makes all the difference. We are registered with the Care Quality Commission and have not yet been given an overall rating. Until we are, the fairest test of us is what the people we support say, so we ask them regularly and act on what we hear. If you are looking into care for yourself or a relative, please get in touch and we will be straight with you.

Here at Your Care Our Support, we are a home care agency based in Bolton, providing care and support to people in their own homes across the local area. We believe that staying at home, surrounded by familiar faces and surroundings, makes a real difference to people's wellbeing, and we work hard to make that possible for the individuals we support. We support a wide range of people, including older adults, younger adults, and those living with dementia, mental health conditions, physical disabilities, and visual or hearing impairments. Every person we work with has different needs and different priorities, so we take the time to get to know each individual properly before any care begins. That way, the support we provide actually fits around their life, rather than the other way around. We know that inviting someone into your home, or the home of a loved one, is not a decision anyone takes lightly. Trust matters enormously in this line of work, and we take that responsibility seriously. Our team is trained to deliver consistent, respectful care that upholds the dignity and independence of every person we support. We aim to be reliable and straightforward to deal with, whether you are getting in touch for the first time or have been with us for some time. As a Bolton based agency, we understand the community we operate in. We are not a distant organisation that does not know the area. We are local, and we care about the people here. If you are looking for home care support for yourself or someone close to you, we would welcome the chance to have a conversation about what you need. We are Your Care Solutions, and we support adults in their own homes across Bolton. We work with people of all ages and build each package around the individual rather than offering something off the shelf. Our support covers older people who need help with personal care, medication, meals and shopping, and adults living with dementia, where continuity of care worker matters more than anything else we can offer. We support adults with learning disabilities and autistic adults, people living with mental ill health, people with physical disabilities and people living with sight or hearing loss. Many of those we support are younger adults who want help that steps back as they take on more themselves. Everything starts with a visit at home and a proper conversation, with family or an advocate present if that is wanted. The plan is written with the person, it records what matters to them and not only which tasks need doing, and it is reviewed when circumstances change. We keep rotas as consistent as we can and we tell people when we are running late rather than leaving them watching the window. Your Life Your Support provides care and support to people in their own homes across Bolton. We work with older people, younger adults, people living with dementia, adults with a learning disability, autistic adults, people managing mental health conditions, people with physical disabilities and people living with sight or hearing loss. Our name states the intention plainly enough. Accepting support should not mean giving up authority over your own life, and our job is to provide the help that makes home workable while leaving as much as possible in the hands of the person we support. We ask what somebody wants their life to look like before we say anything about what we can offer. In practice the support ranges widely. It may be personal care and help with medication, preparing meals and encouraging good nutrition, help to move safely around the home, household tasks, or support to get out, keep appointments, manage money and correspondence, and stay involved with family, work or study. Everything is agreed with the person at the outset and written down plainly, and we revisit it as needs change rather than leaving an old plan in place. Our carers are trained for the needs they will actually meet, properly supervised, and able to reach somebody experienced when a situation is difficult. We keep the group of carers around each person small and consistent. If you are considering support at home in Bolton for yourself or a relative, please contact us and we will talk it through with you honestly.

Arranging and funding home care in Bolton
Support at home tends to follow something ordinary rather than dramatic. Getting washed and dressed has become a struggle, tablets are being missed, or the relative who has quietly been filling the gap can no longer keep it up. Whoever ends up providing the visits, the route into funded support runs through two stages, and knowing which comes first saves a good deal of frustration.
The care needs assessment
Adult social care at Bolton Metropolitan Borough Council Adult Social Care must assess anyone who appears to need care and support, free of charge and with no savings test. A practitioner works through washing, dressing, meals, medication, continence, mobility and the risks of leaving any of it unmet, alongside what family are already doing unpaid. The result is a written record of eligible needs and a support plan describing how many visits are required, at what times and for what purpose. Anyone providing regular unpaid care can ask for a carer's assessment at the same time, which often uncovers practical help nobody had mentioned.
What it costs and who meets it
A financial assessment follows separately, weighing capital and income against limits set nationally. Above the upper capital limit a person arranges and funds their own care; below it the council contributes while the person pays an assessed amount and keeps a protected sum for living costs. Funded support may be commissioned by the council or taken as a direct payment, which gives the person control over which agency attends and when, in exchange for a little administration. Hourly rates shift with early starts, evenings, weekends and bank holidays, so ask for a written schedule rather than a headline figure. Where the need is essentially clinical, ask whether NHS continuing healthcare should be considered first.
Choosing between home care agencies in Bolton
Judging an agency is harder than judging a building, because there is nothing to walk round. What you are really assessing is whether the right person turns up at the right time and works the same way each week.
Making use of the published record
Thirty eight agencies here are rated Good and one is rated Outstanding, which is a solid base for a shortlist. Two carry a Requires Improvement rating, and those reports are worth opening rather than using as a filter, because the concern may sit in paperwork or may be something people receiving visits notice daily. Twenty one agencies have no published rating, so for them the enquiry shifts to how long the service has operated locally, who the registered manager is and what they did before. Check inspection dates as well as grades, since an agency can change character quickly when its management changes.
Questions that reveal how an agency really works
Ask how many different carers a person sees across a fortnight, and whether the same team covers weekends and bank holidays. Find out the shortest visit accepted, how arrival times are agreed and what happens when the regular carer is off sick. Check the training staff hold for the conditions involved and how medication is recorded at each call. Can Bolton Metropolitan Borough Council help with home care costs?
It can, once a needs assessment has established that support is required and a financial assessment has looked at capital and income. Those above the nationally set upper capital limit arrange and pay for their own care. People below it contribute an assessed amount from income while keeping a protected allowance for everyday spending. Funded support can be commissioned by the council or paid as a direct payment so the person chooses their own agency.
How is a care needs assessment arranged in Bolton?
Contact adult social care at Bolton Metropolitan Borough Council and explain what has become difficult day to day. The assessment is free and your savings have no bearing on the right to have one. A practitioner will discuss daily tasks, risks and the help already in place, then record which needs are eligible. You should be given a written support plan setting out what is needed and how often.
When should home care be arranged?
As soon as the difficulties become a pattern rather than an isolated bad week. Assessment, financial checks and the agency's own introductory visit all take time, and hospital discharge leaves very little room for comparison. Allowing a few weeks means meeting more than one provider and confirming availability for the times help is genuinely needed. Where the situation is already urgent, make that clear at the first point of contact.
How many home care agencies serve Bolton?
Sixty two registered providers are listed on this page, from national names to small independent services. Every profile shows the registered provider, the office address and the current regulatory position. Coverage is not uniform across the borough, so confirm that an agency staffs the relevant area before going further. Comparing several profiles side by side is the quickest way to narrow the field.
What should we ask an agency before visits begin?
Ask who will actually attend, how many different carers to expect and whether the same team covers weekends. Check the minimum visit length, how arrival times are agreed and what happens when a carer calls in sick. Ask about training for the particular conditions involved and how to reach a manager out of hours. Get the hourly rate in writing along with anything charged as an extra and the notice period on both sides.
How does home care compare with a care home or nursing home?
Home care brings support to the person, with visits arranged around their day rather than a move elsewhere. A care home provides accommodation with personal care available at any hour, while a nursing home adds registered nurses on duty for clinical needs. The choice frequently turns on what happens between visits rather than during them, especially overnight. Many families begin with home care and consider a residential option only when night time needs cannot be met safely.
