- Care Home
Parkfield Grange is a residential care home in Stourbridge, and we provide a home for older people who need support with daily living, for younger adults who need a supportive household, for people with physical disabilities and for people living with sight or hearing loss. Respite stays are available as well. What we aim for is an ordinary life with help attached rather than a routine everybody has to fit. Residents decide when to get up, where to sit, whether they want company or quiet, and what they would like to eat. We help with personal care, dressing, medication and mobility, doing only as much as somebody actually needs, because taking over is easy and rarely helpful. Dementia care is a large part of our work, and the practical side of it is unglamorous. Keeping the daily rhythm and surroundings consistent. Giving somebody time to find their words instead of finishing their sentence. Knowing enough about a person's earlier life to understand what a worry is really about. Families hold most of that knowledge and we ask for it early. For residents with physical disabilities our attention goes to equipment that fits and transfers handled safely and without embarrassment. For those living with sight or hearing loss, unhurried communication makes most of the difference. We have not yet had an overall rating published by the Care Quality Commission, which we say plainly rather than leaving you to look it up. Come and see us on an ordinary afternoon and ask us whatever you like.

The Brambles Care Home is a residential care home in Stourbridge providing a home for older people and for younger adults who need support with daily living, including people living with dementia and people with physical disabilities. We run the home at the pace of the people in it. Breakfast happens when somebody wakes rather than when a trolley comes round, and the day takes the shape a person wants. The care covers help with washing and dressing, medication, meals cooked here, support with mobility, and somebody always around when a person needs them. For those living with dementia we keep the routine steady and the faces familiar, and we arrange the house so that it is easy to understand and to move about in. Our staff tend to stay with us, and that continuity does more to settle somebody than any particular method could. Families are welcome whenever they wish to come, and we would much rather hear a concern early than have it sit unspoken until it has grown. Respite stays are available alongside permanent places. Our most recent rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please ring us if you would like to come and look round.

We at Oriel Care Home offer a warm and welcoming residential care setting in Stourbridge, providing dedicated older person care, dementia support, and respite stays for families across Dudley and the wider West Midlands. Nestled within the DY postcode area of Stourbridge, our home is thoughtfully located to allow residents to remain close to the community they know and love. The familiar surroundings of this well established market town provide a comforting backdrop, whilst our home itself is designed to feel calm, homely, and easy to navigate for those living with us. Our care focuses on the needs of older adults, including those living with dementia. For families, this means the reassurance that daily routines are shaped with patience, dignity, and genuine understanding. Our approach to dementia care is centred on knowing each resident as an individual, learning their life story, preferences, and the small comforts that make each day meaningful. Whether someone joins us for long term residential care or a shorter respite stay, we aim to provide continuity, kindness, and a real sense of belonging. Respite care at Oriel is designed to support families who may need a short break from their caring role, or those recovering from a hospital stay who benefit from a period of rest before returning home. During this time, guests receive the same attentive care and warm welcome as our permanent residents. Our most recent CQC inspection, carried out in April 2023, resulted in an overall rating of Requires Improvement. We are proud that the inspectors recognised our team as Good in both the Caring and Responsive domains, reflecting the compassion and attentiveness our residents experience each day. We take the areas identified for improvement seriously and are committed to strengthening every aspect of our home so that families can feel fully confident in the care their loved one receives. We believe openness about our journey matters, and we welcome conversations with families about the steps we are taking. Choosing a care home is one of the most important decisions a family can make, and we understand the weight of that choice. If you are exploring options in Stourbridge for a parent, partner, or relative, we warmly invite you to get in touch, ask questions, and discover whether Oriel Care Home could be the right next chapter for someone you love.

Abbeymere Care Centre is a residential care home in Stourbridge. We provide care for older people, including those living with dementia, people managing mental health conditions, people with physical disabilities and people with sight or hearing loss, and we offer respite stays. We try to run a household rather than an institution. Residents bring their own furniture and photographs, keep the routines they have always kept and decide for themselves how much they want to be part of what is going on. Nobody is walked to an activity they have not chosen. When somebody joins us we take time over their history and their preferences, and we record it so that every member of staff knows it rather than only whoever did the assessment. Dementia support rests on familiarity and pace, so we keep staffing as consistent as we can, avoid unnecessary change and work out what settles a particular resident. Where sight or hearing is failing we pay attention to lighting, contrast, signage and equipment, and we check that glasses and hearing aids are actually being used and maintained. For residents with physical disabilities we look at how the building is arranged so that independence is protected where it can be. Supporting mental health needs means consistency and working alongside community teams rather than separately from them. Meals are cooked here and residents have a say in the menu. Visitors are welcome through the day. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please come and see the home for yourself.

- Care Home
Holly Lodge is a residential care home in Stourbridge, Dudley, looking after older people who need support with daily living. Many of our residents are living with dementia, and a number have physical disabilities or sight and hearing loss. The house and the routine are shaped around that. Calm surroundings, clear ways of finding your way about, good lighting and unhurried staff do more good than anything else, though we use equipment and adaptations where they genuinely help. We want this to feel like somewhere people live. Residents bring their own belongings, keep their own habits, choose how they spend the day and see visitors when they like. Meals are planned around what people actually enjoy, and there is company for anyone who wants it and a quiet corner for anyone who does not. Respite stays are available alongside permanent places, whether to give a family carer a planned break or to support someone while they regain confidence after illness. Families are part of life here. We keep relatives informed, welcome them at any reasonable hour, and ask for what they know about the person, which is usually more useful than any form. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please come and look round at a time that suits you and ask us whatever you need to ask.

- Care Home
The Cedars Christian Residential Home is a care home in Stourbridge, in the borough of Dudley. We look after older people, including many living with dementia, and we take respite bookings for people who need a stay of a few weeks. Our Christian character shapes the life of the house without being imposed on anybody. Those who want prayer, services and the company of a church community will find all of it here and will not have to ask twice. Those who want none of it are equally welcome and are never made to feel awkward about it. People of other faiths and of no faith live here and are supported in whatever matters to them. Beyond that, we run an unhurried home. People get up when they choose, keep their own belongings around them, eat food that is worth sitting down to and spend the day as suits them. With dementia, steadiness does most of the good: familiar faces, a predictable routine, calm surroundings and time given rather than rushed. We learn about people's earlier lives so conversation has somewhere to go. Our staff know the people here, which is how a change in health gets noticed early and taken to the GP or district nurse. Our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall. Families are welcome whenever suits them.

Redbrick Court is a residential care home in Stourbridge supporting older people, including those living with dementia, people with physical disabilities and people with sight or hearing loss. Younger adults whose needs are best met in a residential setting are welcome too, and we offer respite stays. Our work is the ordinary business of a day done attentively. Helping somebody get up and dressed the way they prefer. Serving food worth sitting down to. Making sure there is company when it is wanted and quiet when it is not. Noticing quickly when a person is not themselves and doing something about it rather than waiting. For people living with dementia, familiarity carries most of the weight. Consistent faces, a predictable shape to the day, and staff who neither hurry nor correct. For people with a physical disability or with sight or hearing loss, the practical detail is what counts, from equipment that fits properly to belongings staying exactly where they were left and information given in a form that can actually be received. Respite stays give a family carer a planned break or offer somebody support for a shorter period. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. High Lodge Care Home is near Stourbridge, providing residential care for older people, including those living with dementia, residents with a physical disability and people living with sight or hearing loss. We help with washing and dressing, medication, meals and whatever else has become difficult, and we leave people in charge of the rest. Residents decide when they get up and go to bed, where they spend the day, what they eat and whether they want company or a quiet afternoon on their own. For residents living with dementia we keep the house familiar and the staff consistent, explain what is happening as we go and take time to work out what lies behind a change in mood rather than treating it as a symptom. Where somebody has a physical disability the right equipment is in place and staff are trained to help with moving safely and comfortably. For residents with sight or hearing loss we adapt how we communicate, say who we are as we come into a room and do not move things without saying so. Meals are cooked here and we ask people what they actually want to eat. Visitors are welcome at any reasonable time. Respite stays are available. Wychbury Care Home is a residential home in Stourbridge, Dudley, caring for older people, including people living with dementia and people with physical disabilities. Everybody who moves in arrives with a whole life behind them and fully intends to go on having one. So we ask about it. The work somebody did, the people they mind about, the routines that have shaped their days for decades, the things they are private about and the things they are proud of. We write it down, we use it, and we keep correcting it as we learn, because the notes made in the first fortnight are always the least accurate. The rest is ordinary things done consistently. Getting up when you want to. Meals worth turning up for. Being helped with washing and dressing in a way that leaves your dignity where it belongs. Somebody sitting with you when the afternoon drags. For residents living with dementia it means working with the reality they are in rather than correcting it repeatedly. Respite stays are available. Chandos Lodge is a care home in Stourbridge. We provide residential care for older people and younger adults, we support people living with dementia and people with a physical disability, and we offer respite stays alongside permanent places. One thing we would ask any family to look at when they visit is how long the staff have been here. A settled team is the single best indicator of a decent home, and it is far more telling than the state of the carpets. People who stay learn the residents properly, notice when somebody is off colour, and handle a difficult moment calmly because they have seen it before. We put our effort into keeping good staff for exactly that reason. The day itself belongs to the residents. They decide when to get up, where to spend their time and how much company they want. Rooms belong to the people in them, and visitors come without appointment. For people living with dementia, we work from who the person has been rather than what they can currently manage, and families are usually the ones who can tell us that. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Come and see us if you are considering care in this part of Worcestershire, and ask the staff the awkward questions rather than just asking us.

The Gables is a residential care home in Stourbridge, providing a permanent home for adults who need care and support with everyday life. We aim for a household where people are known properly rather than looked after efficiently. Our care is residential rather than nursing. We help with personal care, medication, meals, mobility and company, and we bring in community health professionals when something more clinical is needed. Many of our residents live with dementia, and we rely on familiar staff, a routine that stays where it is and reassurance repeated as often as it is wanted. We care for residents with physical disabilities and those with a visual or hearing impairment, adapting how we communicate and how we help people move about so that dignity and independence are protected. We support younger adults too, planning their interests and routines on their own terms. Field House Rest Home provides residential care in Stourbridge for older people and younger adults, including people living with dementia, people with physical disabilities and people who have sight or hearing loss. We also take planned respite stays. We try to make this feel like a home rather than somewhere people have been placed. Residents get up when they want, spend their days as they choose, keep their own belongings about them and have visitors whenever it suits them. Our staff help with personal care, medicines, meals and the practical running of the place, and they do it in a way that leaves people as much say as possible over their own lives. The small things are what residents notice. A familiar face on shift, tea made the way you like it, being asked rather than told, and somebody spotting that you are not quite yourself today. For residents living with dementia, and for anybody with sight or hearing loss, that familiarity matters far more than a crowded programme of organised activity. Respite stays give family carers a genuine rest, and they let somebody find out what we are like before making any bigger decision. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We ask residents and relatives regularly how we are doing, and we act on what they tell us, including the parts we would rather not hear.

- Care Home
We are Breach House, a residential care home in Stourbridge. We provide a home for older people, including those living with dementia, and we also take respite stays. Residential care means helping with the parts of daily life that have become hard work and leaving everything else in the hands of the person themselves. Washing and dressing, meals, medication, getting about safely, and the ordinary company that makes a day worth getting up for. For health needs beyond what we provide, we work alongside district nurses and GPs rather than stretching to cover something we should not, and we are straightforward with families about where that line falls. Dementia shapes much of our day. We have learned that correcting somebody's version of events achieves nothing, and that knowing who a person has been tells us far more than any list of symptoms. Someone who worked for decades to a particular rhythm often still carries it, and a routine built around that goes better than one imposed on top of it. When a resident is distressed there is nearly always a reason, and it is more often practical than people expect. Respite guests get the same assessment and the same welcome as anyone living here permanently, whether they are recovering after a spell in hospital or giving a family carer a rest.

Arranging and funding a dementia care home place in Stourbridge
Dementia changes what actually matters in a care home. The decor counts for far less than how staff respond to someone who is frightened, asking the same question for the tenth time, or determined to go home; that response is learnt through training and sustained by having enough people on shift.
Staffing, training and continuity
Ask what dementia specific training the staff have had, who delivered it and when it was last refreshed. Ask separately how many care workers are on duty at the difficult times of day, typically late afternoon and through the night, since that is when distress tends to surface. High turnover undermines even a well designed home, because someone with dementia relies on recognising a face rather than remembering a name. All fifteen homes here are registered for accommodation with personal care, so none of them has nursing staff on site.
The building and the daily routine
Look for clear sight lines, a circular route someone can walk without meeting a locked door, and rooms that are easy to tell apart. Ask whether residents can get outside safely on their own initiative and what happens when someone becomes restless at night. Watch a mealtime if you can, since the willingness to let a resident eat at their own pace says more about the culture than any policy document.
What the ratings do and do not tell you
Eleven homes here are rated Good, including Field House Rest Home, The Gables, Chandos Lodge and Wychbury Care Home. Oriel Care Home sits at Requires Improvement and Breach House has been judged Inadequate; read both of those reports closely, because an Inadequate finding is a serious matter and you need to know exactly what inspectors found and whether it has since been addressed. Parkfield Grange and Iverley View have no published rating yet, so what you observe on a visit carries the weight instead.
Choosing between dementia care homes in Stourbridge
Getting the needs assessment done
Before committing to a home, ask for a care needs assessment. Dudley Metropolitan Borough Council is responsible for assessing anyone in Stourbridge who appears to need care and support, and the resulting record of what help is needed is what any funded placement is built on. A financial assessment follows, comparing capital and income against the national means test limits. Where dementia affects someone's ability to decide for themselves, ask about mental capacity and whether a best interests decision or a deputyship is needed, as that shapes who can sign the contract.
How the fees work
Weekly fees cover the room, meals, personal care and everyday support, with extras such as hairdressing and chiropody usually billed separately. Homes sometimes charge more for a resident with dementia on the grounds of higher staffing, so ask directly whether that applies and get the figure in writing. If capital and income fall below the means test limits the council contributes; above them the placement is funded privately. Where a property will eventually be sold to pay for care, ask the council about a deferred payment agreement rather than assuming a rushed sale is the only option.

Fifteen residential care homes are listed for Stourbridge, taken from current registration records for this area and care type. They include Woodlands Gate Rest Home, The Cedars Christian Residential Home, High Lodge Care Home, Redbrick Court, Abbeymere Care Centre, The Brambles Care Home and Holly Lodge among those rated Good. Registration for dementia care does not by itself mean a home suits every stage of the condition, so the detail matters. Each profile carries the rating and the inspection report behind it.
How does a dementia care home differ from a dementia nursing home?
A dementia care home provides accommodation and personal care, covering help with washing, dressing, medicines, meals and support through the day. A dementia nursing home holds an additional registration and keeps a registered nurse on the premises for clinical needs such as wound care, feeding tubes or complex medication. Every provider listed for Stourbridge on this page is a residential care home, so none is registered to deliver nursing on site. Since dementia often brings clinical needs later on, it is worth asking each home what it can continue to manage and at what point a move would be necessary.
What should I ask when I look round a dementia home in Stourbridge?
Ask how staff are trained to handle distress and what they do rather than what they avoid, as the answer reveals the culture quickly. Find out how families are kept informed and whether you can visit at mealtimes or in the evening rather than only mid morning. Ask what happens if your relative's dementia advances and the home can no longer meet their needs safely. It is also worth asking how many residents currently live with dementia, since a home with only one or two may be less practised at it.
How is a care needs assessment arranged in Stourbridge?
Contact Dudley Metropolitan Borough Council and request an assessment of care needs for the person concerned. Anyone who appears to need care and support has a right to one, and it is not dependent on savings or income. Keep a short diary beforehand of what has become difficult, any wandering or confusion, missed medication and anything that has gone wrong, because dated examples are far more persuasive than general description. A relative can attend, and an advocate can be arranged where the person would struggle to represent themselves.
Can Dudley Metropolitan Borough Council fund a dementia placement?
It can where the person is eligible on both of the assessments that apply. The council considers care needs first, then carries out a financial assessment measuring capital and income against the national means test limits. Anyone below those limits receives a contribution towards the weekly fee, while anyone above them funds the placement themselves. Where nursing or continuing healthcare needs are in question, ask about the separate health funding routes as well, since these are assessed differently.
How far ahead should a family begin looking?
Begin earlier than feels comfortable, because dementia tends to progress in steps and a sudden decline leaves little time to choose well. A few months of looking allows several visits, including unannounced ones, and time to read the reports carefully. Where a hospital discharge is setting the pace you may have only days, so knowing the local homes in advance is genuinely valuable. Even an informal shortlist made early removes much of the panic from an urgent decision.
