    • Care Home

Westmead Residential Care Home is a care home in Droitwich, Worcestershire. The people living here include older people, many of them living with dementia, along with younger adults, people with a physical disability and people with sight or hearing loss. Respite stays are available. Because our residents need quite different things from us, support is planned with each person rather than run to a single pattern. People keep their own rooms, their own belongings and their own routines, and they decide how much of the day to spend in company and how much on their own. We ask about the small preferences in detail and expect our staff to follow them, since those details are most of what makes a place feel like home. For residents living with dementia, consistency helps more than anything. Familiar staff, routines that change only when there is a reason, and the patience to understand what somebody means when words have become unreliable. Where people have sight or hearing loss we take particular care over how we communicate, so that nobody is left out of what is going on around them. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We take it as evidence that the everyday work is being done properly and we keep looking at the detail. If you are considering a care home in this part of Worcestershire for someone close to you, you are welcome to visit and ask us anything you like.

    • Care Home

Westmead Residential Care Home is in Droitwich, supporting older people from across Worcestershire, including people living with dementia and people who have a physical disability. We are a residential home rather than a clinical setting, and we say so plainly because people deserve to know what they are choosing. What we provide is a household in which the practical difficulties of later life have been lifted off somebody's shoulders. Help with washing and dressing, given without fuss and in private. Medication managed properly. Meals cooked here and eaten at a table. Somebody awake through the night. Company when it is wanted and quiet when it is not. Most people move in after a hard stretch, so the first weeks are taken slowly. We learn how a person likes their day arranged before we start arranging anything, and we expect that somebody may be grieving for their own house while settling into a room here. Routines matter more than people expect. For residents with a physical disability, accessible bathrooms, the right equipment and staff who know how that individual prefers to be helped to move keep daily life from shrinking. With dementia we work on familiarity and calm rather than correction, and relatives usually hold the detail that settles a difficult hour. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We take it as a floor. Come and have a cup of tea and ask the residents what they think.

    • Care Home

The Priory is a residential care home in Droitwich caring for older people, including those living with dementia and people with physical disabilities. The house runs at a domestic pace. Help with washing, dressing, mobility and medication is given discreetly and when it suits the person, not when it suits a rota. Before somebody moves in we spend time learning how they have always run their day, and those preferences are written down so nobody has to keep explaining themselves. For people living with dementia we keep the day steady and the faces familiar, and we ask families to tell us about the life behind the person, the work they did and what calms them when they are anxious. We use that daily rather than filing it away. Where mobility is difficult we pay attention to the practical side, from equipment that actually suits to getting about the house safely. Meals are cooked on the premises and mealtimes are sociable and unhurried. Visitors are welcome whenever they want to come, and we would much rather hear a small worry early than a large one later. Short respite stays are available, often to give a carer at home a rest or to help somebody recover confidence after hospital. Our most recent rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please come and see us.

    • Care Home

The Haven Rest Home is a residential care home in Droitwich, Worcestershire, caring for older people including many living with dementia. We also take respite bookings for people who need a stay of a few weeks rather than a permanent place. We run an unhurried home. People get up when they choose, keep their own things around them, eat food that is worth sitting down to, and spend the day as suits them. There is company and something happening for anyone who wants it, and a quiet corner for anyone who would rather have their own. Nobody is pushed into either. With dementia, steadiness does most of the good. Familiar staff, a predictable shape to the day, calm surroundings and time given rather than rushed. We learn about people's earlier lives from them and from their families, because knowing who somebody has been changes how you talk with them now. Where a person becomes distressed we look for the cause rather than reaching for a label. Our staff know the people living here well, which is how a change in health gets noticed early and taken to the GP or district nurse before it becomes serious. Families are welcome whenever suits them and are part of how decisions are made. Our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall. Do ring if you would like to look round.

    • Care Home

Droitwich Mews Care Home sits in the spa town of Droitwich, and we are proud to be part of the community here in Worcestershire. We are a residential care home offering a settled, comfortable place to live for older people, and we also welcome younger adults whose needs are best met in a supportive home of this kind. Much of our work is with people living with dementia, and we have built our routines around what helps: familiar faces, an unhurried pace, and staff who take the time to learn someone's history rather than only their care plan. We also support residents with physical disabilities and with visual or hearing impairment, adapting how we communicate and how we move around the building so that nobody feels left out of the day. Alongside permanent residency we offer respite stays. These matter a great deal to families who provide care at home and need a break, and to people recovering after a spell in hospital who are not quite ready to manage on their own. A respite guest is a full part of the household for as long as they stay with us. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. We treat that as a starting point rather than a finish line, and we keep asking residents and relatives what could be better. If you are considering a move, please come and see us. We are happy to show you around, answer questions honestly, and let you meet the people who live here.

    • Care Home

Here at Woodland View Care Home in Droitwich, Worcestershire, we provide a warm and homely environment where older adults can feel genuinely settled, supported and valued. We are a residential care home offering a range of specialist support, and we take real pride in getting to know each person who comes through our doors as an individual rather than simply a resident. Our team supports people living with dementia, mental health needs, as well as visual and hearing impairments. We understand that each of these conditions brings its own particular challenges, and we work closely with residents and their families to make sure the care we provide genuinely fits around the person rather than the other way around. Familiar routines, thoughtful communication and a calm atmosphere all matter enormously to us. For those who need a shorter stay, we also offer respite care, giving family carers the chance to take a break with the confidence that their loved one is in safe and attentive hands. Whether a stay with us is planned or comes together at short notice, we do our best to make the transition as straightforward and reassuring as possible. Droitwich is a lovely town and our location means residents can stay close to the community they know, with family and friends able to visit without having to travel too far. That connection to familiar faces and local life makes a real difference to wellbeing. We are currently awaiting our CQC rating and welcome any prospective residents or families to come and visit us in person. We find that seeing the home for yourself, meeting the team and having a proper conversation is always the best way to get a feel for whether Woodland View is the right fit. We would love to hear from you.

Arranging and funding a dementia care home place in Droitwich

Sorting out how a placement will be paid for usually changes which homes are realistic, so it belongs near the start rather than the end. A care needs assessment is free, can be requested by anyone and establishes whether residential dementia care is the right level of support. Worcestershire County Council is responsible for that assessment and for the financial assessment that follows it, and a carer living with the person may request a separate assessment of their own.

How the means test is applied

Savings, income and, in a permanent placement, usually the value of a property are measured against the national capital thresholds. Capital above the upper threshold means fees are met privately. Below the lower threshold only income is counted, with a weekly personal allowance protected, and a deferred payment arrangement can postpone the sale of a house.

Costs and the allowances worth claiming

Residential dementia care is priced below nursing care because the support is personal rather than clinical, though homes with specialist dementia provision often charge above the standard local residential rate. Attendance allowance and the daily living part of personal independence payment are not means tested and are regularly overlooked. Where a council contribution falls short of a home's private fee, confirm in writing whether a third party payment is expected and who would be liable.

Choosing between dementia care homes in Droitwich

The Priory Care Home, Westmead Residential Care Home, Droitwich Mews Care Home and The Haven Rest Home are each rated Good. Woodland View Care Home has no published rating as yet. Dementia specific practice is where homes genuinely diverge, so ask each one how many staff hold dementia training and how often it is refreshed.

Reading the reports, and what to do without one

A Good rating covers whether a home is safe, effective, caring, responsive and well led, and the caring and responsive sections speak most directly to how a resident with dementia is treated day to day. Check the date of each report before weighing it. Where no report exists, ask who the registered manager is and how long the staff team has been in place.

What to notice on a visit

Watch whether residents are occupied or simply sitting, and ask what happens when someone becomes distressed late in the day. Ask how the home supports a resident who walks frequently and whether the garden is secure and genuinely used. Ask finally what would happen if needs progressed beyond the home's registration.

Frequently asked questions about dementia care homes in Droitwich

How many dementia care homes are there in Droitwich?

Droitwich has 6 CQC registered care homes that are registered for dementia care, out of 9 CQC registered care homes in Droitwich: 5 Good, 1 not yet rated. Counts come from the CQC register and are kept up to date as ratings change.

Which dementia care homes in Droitwich were inspected most recently?

Droitwich Mews Care Home (17 March 2025), The Haven Rest Home (25 April 2023) and The Priory Care Home (21 August 2019) have the most recent CQC reports.

Can Worcestershire County Council fund a dementia care placement?

Worcestershire County Council can fund or part fund a placement where the needs assessment confirms residential dementia care is appropriate and the financial assessment shows capital below the upper threshold. Anyone above that threshold meets the fees privately, although the needs assessment is still worth having on record. A deferred payment agreement may be available where most of the capital is held in a property. Where the council rate falls short of a home's fee, ask in writing who would cover the difference.

How is a care needs assessment arranged in Droitwich?

Ask Worcestershire County Council for an adult social care needs assessment, which anyone can request, including a relative acting with the person's consent. There is no charge and the outcome does not depend on income or savings. An assessor will look at memory, daily living, mobility, medication and night time needs before recommending a level of care. A carer can also request a separate carer's assessment in their own right.

How far ahead should a family begin looking?

Start early even where a move still feels some way off, because dementia progresses unevenly and the decision often arrives sooner than expected. Six to eight weeks allows for repeat visits, a careful read of the reports and a settled funding position. A crisis admission or hospital discharge rarely allows that, so a shortlist held in reserve is worth having. Where a suitable room comes free sooner, many homes will hold it briefly against a deposit.

Which homes in Droitwich provide dementia care?

Five residential care homes covering Droitwich are registered to support people living with dementia: Woodland View Care Home, The Priory Care Home, Westmead Residential Care Home, Droitwich Mews Care Home and The Haven Rest Home. The Priory Care Home, Westmead Residential Care Home, Droitwich Mews Care Home and The Haven Rest Home are each rated Good by the Care Quality Commission. Woodland View Care Home does not have a published rating at present. Each profile links through to the inspection report behind its rating where one exists.

What should be asked when visiting a dementia care home in Droitwich?

Ask what proportion of staff hold dementia training, how often it is refreshed and how high turnover is, since familiar faces matter a great deal to someone with memory loss. Ask how the home responds to distress or agitation and whether any restrictive practice is used. Visit at a mealtime and watch how residents needing help to eat are supported. Where a home has no published rating, ask how long it has been open and who runs it.

What is the difference between a dementia care home and a dementia nursing home?

A dementia care home provides residential personal care, covering help with washing, dressing, meals, prompting medication and supervision day and night. A dementia nursing home adds registered nurses on duty at all hours and can manage clinical needs such as wound care, tube feeding or palliative nursing. Many people live well in residential dementia care for years and only need nursing in the later stages. All 6 homes listed for Droitwich are residential rather than nursing.
