About Ashdown Lodge

Ashdown Lodge is a residential care home in Littlehampton, West Sussex, providing a settled and comfortable home for older people who are finding it hard to manage on their own. A good deal of our work is with people living with dementia. We keep the day unhurried and familiar, we avoid changing things without good reason, and we spend time at the start learning about somebody's life, family, work and habits, because knowing who a person has been tells us far more about how to support them now than any list of needs. Families help enormously with that, and we ask them for the small details as much as the medical ones. Beyond that, life here is decided by the people living it. Some want company and whatever is going on; others would rather have their own room and their own quiet. Both are perfectly reasonable. Visitors are welcome at whatever time suits them, and we keep relatives properly informed about how things are going. We also offer respite stays, which suit family carers needing a planned break and people who need support for a few weeks after illness or a hospital admission. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good, which we treat as a starting point rather than a destination.
