About Sesame

Sesame is a residential care home in Torquay, supporting adults and younger adults who have a learning disability or who are autistic. We are a small home, which is what makes it possible to know each person properly and to support them in the way that genuinely suits them. Everyone who lives here has a support plan written with them, in a form they can take part in, and we revisit it as things change. We pay close attention to how each person communicates, including through routine, mood and behaviour, and we adapt our approach rather than expecting people to adjust to us. A predictable day, careful regard for sensory needs and staff who stay the same are what keep life here settled. We want the house to run like a home. People help with the shopping and cooking, share the chores, choose what happens at the weekend, keep up with family and friends, and get out into Torquay and along the coast. Where someone wants to build a skill, we support the practice rather than doing the job for them. We also offer respite stays, which give families a planned break and let the person enjoy somewhere familiar. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good.
