About Us

Garden House is a residential care home in Torquay, providing care for older people, including people living with dementia and people living with mental ill health. We also offer respite stays.

We run the home the way a household runs. People get up when they wake, sit where they choose, eat what they enjoy and keep the habits of a lifetime. Help with washing, dressing, medication and getting about is given when it is needed, quietly and with respect for privacy.

Good dementia care depends on knowledge and patience rather than on any particular technique. Our team learns each resident's history, their family and their working life, and uses that every day. When somebody is anxious or unsettled there is usually a reason behind it, and looking for the reason is far more useful than smoothing it over.

Being by the coast has its advantages. Getting out for a walk, a look at the sea or a cup of tea somewhere is part of ordinary life here rather than an outing to be arranged.

Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good.

If you are looking at residential care in Torquay, please arrange to come in, meet the team and take your time over the decision.
