About Oakley House

Oakley House is a care home in Thames Ditton, Surrey, providing residential care for adults. Those living with us include older people and younger adults, people with a learning disability or autism, people with a physical disability and people managing mental health conditions. We also offer respite stays when somebody needs a short period of care or a family carer needs a break. Our residents have very different needs, so we do not run the house to one timetable. Support is agreed with each person, around how they want their days to go and how much help they actually want. We try to be careful about the difference between helping somebody and doing things for them, since independence is easily eroded by kindness that is in too much of a hurry. We want to be honest about where we are. The Care Quality Commission most recently judged that we require improvement overall. We accepted the findings rather than arguing with them, we have an action plan in place and we are working through it with colleagues in health and the local authority. We would far rather tell families this directly than hope the question does not come up. If you are considering Oakley House for someone, please come and visit. Meet the people who live here, speak to our staff and ask us exactly what was wrong and what we have done about it. You should be asking that of any home you look at, and we will answer you plainly.
