About Beech Lodge
We are Beech Lodge in Thames Ditton, a residential care home in Surrey. We support adults with learning disabilities, autistic adults, people managing mental health conditions and younger adults, and we offer respite stays for people who live elsewhere. This is home for the people who live here, and we try to behave accordingly. People have their own rooms set up as they like them, they decide how their day goes, and they have a genuine voice in how the house is run. We ask before we act, we knock before we come in, and we are prepared to be disagreed with. A good deal of our work is quietly practical: building confidence with cooking, money, travel, appointments and keeping in touch with people who matter. Some of that goes well quickly and some of it takes years, and both are fine. What we will not do is take over jobs somebody could learn to manage, because independence handed away is difficult to recover. Supporting mental health here is largely about steadiness and not taking things personally. We keep to what we have agreed, we notice when somebody seems different, and we make it easy to talk without needing an appointment. Where people are working with community teams or other professionals we join up with them properly. Thames Ditton and the wider area give people plenty of reason to get out, and we support that as much as anyone wants. The Care Quality Commission rated us good at our most recent inspection, and we keep looking at what could be better.
