About Us
We are a residential care home in Westcliff on Sea supporting adults with a range of needs. The people who live here include older people, younger adults, people living with dementia, adults with learning disabilities, autistic people and people living with mental health conditions.
Supporting that mix means paying attention to individuals rather than to categories. Some of the people here need a good deal of help with personal care, medication and moving about. Others need much less of that and a great deal more support with everything else: keeping to arrangements, managing anxiety, getting out of the house and having staff who know when to step in and when to leave well alone.
Residents keep their own rooms, belongings and routines as far as we can manage, and they decide how much they want to be part of whatever is happening. Where somebody is living with dementia we spend time learning their history and habits, because knowing the person is what settles them when they are frightened. Respite stays are available as well as permanent places.
Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission was requires improvement. We would rather tell you that ourselves than leave you to find it later. We are working through what the inspectors raised and are willing to go through the report with anyone considering the home.
Please come and see the place as it really is.

Questions families ask about The Hollies
Answered from the CQC register where we can. 5 of these the home has not told us yet, so ask when you call.
Can Mum or Dad stay here if their dementia gets worse?
Yes. The Hollies is registered for dementia care, so someone whose needs increase can usually stay rather than move. Ask how they support people in the later stages. Source: CQC register
Is there a nurse on site if health needs change?
No. The Hollies is a residential care home without on-site nursing. District nurses and GPs visit, but someone who needs daily nursing may have to move to a nursing home. Source: CQC register

Will they support end of life care, so there is no move at the hardest time?
Ask the home. End of life care is not listed on the register. Ask the manager whether residents can remain in the home with hospice or district nurse support.
Can she bring her cat or dog?
Ask the home. The home has not told us its pet policy yet. Ask directly; some homes allow small pets in residents' rooms or welcome visiting dogs.
Can a couple stay together?
Ask the home. We do not know whether the home has rooms for couples. Ask about shared or adjoining rooms if this matters.
Will the council help pay, or is it self funded only?
Ask the home. The home has not told us which funding it accepts. Most homes take both council funded and self funded residents; ask about council rates and any top up. Use our funding calculator to check what you might pay.
Do they take younger adults as well as older people?
Yes. The Hollies supports younger adults as well as older people. Source: CQC register
Can I visit before deciding, and are there visiting hours?
Ask the home. Every home should welcome a visit. Call to arrange one, ideally at a mealtime or during an activity, and ask about visiting hours for family.
