About Us
Phoenix House is a residential care home in Westcliff on Sea. We support older people and younger adults, including adults with learning disabilities, autistic adults, people with physical disabilities and people with sight or hearing loss. Respite stays are available.
This is a house run with the people who live in it rather than around them. Residents choose how their rooms look, what they eat, how they spend their time and what part they play in the household. Cooking, shopping and laundry are things people do with support where they can, because independence grows out of doing things rather than being told about them.
Practical detail matters a great deal here. The building is arranged so that people with reduced mobility or restricted sight can get about safely and independently, and our staff are trained in moving and handling and in the equipment people rely on. Where sight or hearing is affected we pay attention to lighting, contrast, sound and how we announce ourselves before doing anything.
Communication takes different forms and we learn each person's, whether speech, signing, pictures, objects or the particular way somebody shows they have had enough. For autistic residents we keep routines stable and give notice of change well in advance.
Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please get in touch if you would like to visit.

Ask the home. The home has not told us its pet policy yet. Ask directly; some homes allow small pets in residents' rooms or welcome visiting dogs.

Ask the home. We do not know whether the home has rooms for couples. Ask about shared or adjoining rooms if this matters.
Will the council help pay, or is it self funded only?
Ask the home. The home has not told us which funding it accepts. Most homes take both council funded and self funded residents; ask about council rates and any top up. Use our funding calculator to check what you might pay.
