About Us

Here at Poplars Resource Centre in Southport, we provide residential care for younger adults with learning disabilities and autism. We are part of Sefton New Directions, and our work is grounded in a genuine commitment to supporting each person who lives with us to lead a fulfilling, meaningful life on their own terms.

We understand that moving into a care home, or choosing respite care, is a significant step for both the individual and their family. That is why we take the time to get to know each person properly, not just their care needs, but their personality, their interests, their routines, and what matters most to them day to day. We believe that good support looks different for everyone, and we work hard to make sure our approach reflects that.

Our team is experienced in supporting people with learning disabilities and autism, and we place a strong emphasis on communication, consistency, and trust. Many of the people we support thrive with familiar faces and predictable environments, so we work thoughtfully to create a settled, comfortable atmosphere where people feel safe and at home.

We also offer respite care, which gives families and carers the reassurance that their loved one is in a place where they are genuinely looked after and where routines and preferences are respected, even during a short stay.

We are pleased that our most recent Care Quality Commission inspection rated us as good, and we see that as a reflection of the everyday effort our staff put in rather than something to simply display. We are always looking at how we can do better and improve the experience for the people in our care.

If you would like to find out more about life at Poplars Resource Centre, we would be very happy to hear from you.

More about the care at Sefton New Directions Limited - Poplars Resource Centre

What each type of care involves, and the questions worth asking when you call or visit.

Learning Disability / Autism

The measure of good support for a learning disability or autism is whether the person has more control over their life, not less. Sefton New Directions Poplars Resource Centre is registered for this group. Ask how plans are made with each resident, how sensory needs are handled, and how often placements are reviewed.

Younger Adults

Work, college, friendships and getting out independently matter more to a resident of 30 than the quality of the lounge furniture. Sefton New Directions Poplars Resource Centre is registered to support adults under 65. Ask what the age range is at present and what people actually do with their days.

Respite Care

Short stays can be a lifeline for families who provide most of the care themselves. Sefton New Directions Poplars Resource Centre is registered to offer respite. Ask what the minimum booking is, how much notice is needed, and what information should be sent ahead.

Residential Care

Somewhere to live with support on hand, rather than a hospital or a hostel, is what a residential home amounts to.
