About Cranmer House

Cranmer House is a residential care home in Fakenham, Norfolk. We are home to older people who need support with everyday life, including residents living with dementia, and we offer respite stays for people who need care for a shorter period or whose family carer needs a rest. We think of this as somewhere people live, not somewhere care is delivered to them, and we try to make that difference obvious in how the house runs. Residents tell us when they like to get up, what they want to eat, how much help they want and where they prefer to spend the day. Support with personal care, meals, medication and appointments is given quietly and with proper regard for privacy, and whatever someone can still do for themselves is protected rather than taken over. Dementia care shapes much of our work. Knowing a person's history, the people and places that matter to them and the rhythms that suit them is what allows us to reassure someone who is anxious instead of arguing with them. We keep the day familiar and explain changes in advance wherever we can. Company matters too, and we pay attention to residents who would otherwise spend the day alone in their room. Families are welcome whenever they want to come. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good.
