About Gilburn

Gilburn is a residential care home in Loughborough. We support adults with a learning disability, autistic adults, people with mental health needs, people with physical disabilities and people with a visual or hearing impairment, including younger adults. We also offer respite stays. Supporting people this different from one another means planning around each person rather than running the house to a single pattern. Everyone here has a support plan written with them, in a form they can use, covering how they like to be supported, what they enjoy, what they find difficult and what they want their week to contain. People go out into Loughborough, keep up college, work, clubs and family contact, and we treat that as the purpose of the place rather than something to fit in when staffing allows. Communication is where we concentrate. Where somebody does not use speech, we learn how they do tell us things and make sure every member of the team can read them confidently. Where a person has limited sight or hearing, the way we approach them takes account of it. When someone becomes distressed we look for the cause, and anything that limits a person's freedom is agreed formally, recorded and reviewed. The Care Quality Commission rated us good overall at our most recent inspection. Families, advocates and professionals are welcome to visit.
