About The Beeches
The Beeches is a care home in Mirfield. We provide residential care for adults with a learning disability and autistic adults, including people with a physical disability and people with a visual or hearing impairment. Respite stays are available alongside permanent places. Supporting somebody who has both a learning disability and a sensory impairment takes real skill. If a person cannot see or hear well, the ordinary ways of explaining what is about to happen do not work, and the world becomes unpredictable in a way that is frightening rather than merely inconvenient. So we spend serious time on communication, using touch, objects, signing or whatever fits the person, and we never assume that a lack of response means a lack of understanding. Days here are meant to have purpose in them. People have things they are working towards, places they go and activities that suit them rather than filling time. Routines are steady, changes are prepared for well in advance, and the sensory side of the environment is thought about rather than left to chance. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Families and social workers are welcome to visit and see how we work.
