About Poplars
We are a residential home in Mirfield supporting adults with learning disabilities and autistic people, including people with physical disabilities and people with loss of sight or hearing. The house runs as a household rather than an institution. Everyone has their own room and their own things, and the week is worked out between the people who live here and the staff supporting them: what is cooked, when the shopping is done, who wants to go out and where to. Those are small matters that add up to whether somebody feels at home or merely accommodated. Support is built around what each person wants to be able to do, whether that is a job, a college course, a regular volunteering day, getting out regularly, keeping up with family or managing money with a hand from staff. Where somebody needs help with personal care, mobility or health appointments, we give it without taking over more of the task than is necessary. Where sight or hearing is affected, the detail of how we communicate matters a great deal, and we take the time it actually requires. Consistency counts for a great deal, particularly for autistic people, so we keep staffing as settled as we can. Respite stays are available alongside longer places. Our most recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission rated us good overall. Please come and visit and meet the people who live here.
