About Highfield
Highfield is a residential care home in Sevenoaks, Kent, and we support older people who need help with daily living, adults with learning disabilities, autistic people, and people with physical disabilities. Respite stays are available as well. Supporting a mixed group well depends on treating each person as an individual rather than as a category, and that is what we try to do. Support is agreed with the person, written in terms they recognise, and reviewed as things change. Some residents need a great deal of hands on help with washing, dressing, medication and mobility. Others mainly want a settled place to live and support that is available when they ask for it. For autistic people, predictability is a need rather than a preference, so changes are explained in advance, staffing is kept as consistent as we can manage, and we take noise, light and busyness seriously. For residents with physical disabilities the emphasis is on equipment that fits and transfers handled safely and without embarrassment. We should be open about our position. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is requires improvement. We have worked through the findings with our team, and those areas are where our effort is concentrated at present. We would rather tell you ourselves and then let you come and judge for yourself. Families and professionals considering Highfield for somebody are welcome to visit on an ordinary day and question us closely.
