About Us

Seabourne House is a residential care home on Romney Marsh in Kent, supporting adults with a learning disability or autism. It is a home rather than a placement, and the household is built around the people who live in it.

Support is individual and practical. It can include help with personal care, medication, cooking, laundry, managing money and getting to appointments, and it takes in the things that make a week worth having: seeing people, going out, keeping up an interest, being useful, having plans of your own. We communicate in whatever way suits each person, and a routine that can be relied upon matters greatly to most of those we support. We give people the time to do things themselves even when stepping in would be quicker, and where somebody wants more independence we plan support that draws back steadily as their confidence grows.

Most of the people we support are younger adults, and we are careful not to assume that a shared diagnosis means shared wishes. Respite stays are available too, giving family carers a real break and letting somebody get used to the house first.

Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is good. Please come and visit, meet the people who live here and see how the household actually runs.
