About Us

Twyford House is a residential care home in Dover, supporting adults with learning disabilities and autistic adults. Most of those living here are younger adults, and we also offer respite stays.

We treat this as somebody's home rather than a placement. People arrange their own rooms, have a real say in the food and the shopping, and are involved in how the household runs. Where somebody wants a job, a course or a club, we treat that as the purpose of our support rather than an extra added on.

Predictability matters a great deal here. For many of those living with us, knowing what is happening and who will be on shift is what makes a day workable rather than difficult, so we plan ahead and explain changes early.

Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is requires improvement. We would rather write that plainly than have a family come across it and wonder what else we left unsaid. We accept what was found and we are working through it, and we are not going to claim it is all behind us in a paragraph.

If you are considering this home for someone, please visit without an appointment, spend time with the people who live here, talk to relatives, and ask us hard questions about what has changed.
