Chitty Barn

Chitty Barn is a residential care home in Dover, Kent (CT16 1EU). It holds a CQC rating of Outstanding.

About Chitty Barn

Chitty Barn is a residential care home in Dover, and we support a wider range of people than most homes take on. Older people who need help with daily living, including those living with dementia. Adults with learning disabilities and autistic people. Adults living with mental ill health. People with physical disabilities and people living with sight or hearing loss. Younger adults. Respite stays are available as well. A household this varied only works if people are treated as individuals rather than as categories, and that is genuinely how we run it. Support is agreed with the person, written in terms they recognise, and reviewed as things change. Some residents need a great deal of hands on help with washing, dressing, medication and mobility. Others mainly want stability, company when they choose it, and a household that holds together through a difficult week. For autistic people, predictability is a need rather than a preference. For residents living with dementia we keep routines and surroundings familiar and give people time. For those with physical disabilities or sight and hearing loss, the emphasis is on equipment that fits, safe transfers and unhurried communication. Our most recent overall rating from the Care Quality Commission is outstanding. We are pleased about that, though the test we care about more is whether the people who live here would say the same about this week. You are welcome to visit on an ordinary day and take your time deciding.
