About Little Glen
Little Glen is a residential care home in Dover supporting adults with a learning disability or autism, with respite stays available alongside permanent places. We are a small household and we like it that way. It means nobody here is one of a crowd, that staff have the time to know somebody properly, and that the way the house runs can be worked out between the people living in it rather than imposed from above. Mealtimes, outings, how noisy or quiet things are and what goes on the shopping list are all matters for discussion. Our team supports people to be as independent as they want to be. That covers cooking and shopping, managing money, travelling about, keeping up work or college and staying in touch with family and friends. Where somebody communicates in their own way, whether through signs, symbols, a communication aid or gestures that belong to them alone, we learn it rather than expecting them to adapt to us. When life gets difficult we look for the reason rather than reaching for a label, and we plan ahead with the person, in calm moments, about what actually helps. We work with families, social workers, GPs and community teams and we keep everybody informed. Respite guests are planned for properly, with a visit beforehand so a short stay feels like a welcome. The Care Quality Commission rated us good at our most recent inspection. Come and see us.
