About The Chase

The Chase is a residential care home in Canterbury, Kent. We look after older people who can no longer manage at home on their own, including a good many living with dementia, and we offer respite stays as well as permanent places. We are not a nursing home, and we are straightforward with families about where that line falls. What we do is the daily work of helping somebody wash and dress, take their medicines, eat properly, move about safely and stay in touch with other people. Done well that is a skilled job, and it rests almost entirely on whether the staff know the person, so keeping our team is where most of our effort goes. For residents with dementia we have learned that steadiness helps more than stimulation. The same faces, meals at the same times, a bedroom that looks like the person's own room, and nothing moved without a reason. Within that there is a good deal going on, and a great deal of tea. Canterbury is a city people are attached to, and many of our residents have lived here most of their lives, which gives the lounge plenty of common ground. We ask families to stay closely involved, to come at mealtimes, to take their relative out, and to tell us promptly when we have got something wrong. Call in and see us, with or without warning.
